Hatred - too controversial/violent?

Basically a game where you play as a mass murderer. Actually made my stomach turn in a couple of places. Not like GTA style cartoon violence but actual damn son violence.

There just doesn't seem to be a point. Manhunt was pretty fucking gruesome but at least that had a story and some sort of objective to it...not just shooting people whilst they scream.

However I'd play it for a bit. See what it's like.

Imagine it would get boring though really quickly if it's just massacring people and nothing else.

I haven't seen the video yet because I'm at work, but I'm tentatively in the "it's just a game" camp for the moment. For the most part it just sounds like it wouldn't have a great deal of longevity.

I'm usually of the "it's just a game" mindset as well...but honestly, this one is just really awful looking. I've no problem with violence in games as long as there is a point to it.

I don't think I mind there not being a point. It's not like everyone that plays GTA doesn't have the odd half hour where they say "Fuck the story, I'm just going to see how long I can survive a civilian massacre" and shoots someone in the face on the street.

Carmageddon didn't have much point apart from killing innocent pedestrians.

The "point" only really keeps you coming back...

I used to love Carmageddon when I was a kid and the only point of the violence in that was violence and marketing the game.

Carmageddon was jokey violence though. Same with Doom 2, there was gore but it was over the top to the point of being almost funny.

i don't see how the existence of previously released games no matter how violent somehow cancel out the undeniable bleakness of this game. i just remembered carmageddon and yeah it was sorta fun but i'd like to think that the bad graphics (especially when compared to today's standards) and the macabre comical aspect made it somehow bearable. this isn't comical in any standards.

Also I'm assuming that the game is actually toned down a little. Not seen any children in the trailer for example. Also guessing there will be more of a point to it. This is just a trailer and one that's likely to try sell it on controversy.

I dunno what everyone's getting so worked up about. It's really stupid and shit, yeah, but there's been games with slightly less edgy trailers that basically let you do the same thing ingame.

it's prolly gonna be a download PC game. It looks like it's a twin stick shooter and those are very rarely physical release.

Maybe if some sensitive stnuc protest a lot steam won't sell it or something.

There's been a video game made for almost every headline tragedy going... I remember similar outrage when Postal came out in the mid 90s, which pretty much had the same angle as this game, didn't it?
