YOUNGSTA
Youngsta should need little introduction. One of the figureheads of dubstep since the very beginning, resident at scene-defining club night FWD>>, and the DJ who first played some of the genre’s most-loved anthems, he continues to be a hugely active figure in dubstep’s development. His weekly show on Rinse FM draws deep for new music, helping to expose talented new producers, and the founding ethics that defined dubstep in its early years still remain at the heart of his sets.
“The sound is just me,” he says, explaining that he’s hesitant to draw a defined line around the music he plays. “It’s Youngsta. It’s what I’ve always done. People say it’s not changed much, but you can hear progression and change definitely, it’s not the same [as it was]. It’s obviously the same vibe, it’s going to be deep.”
Youngsta was one of the first DJs to play dubstep on Rinse, alongside DJ Hatcha and Kode9, in the early part of last decade. Since he’s borne witness to every mutation in the sound, and his shows now find music by brand new producers rubbing shoulders with Tempa Records artists such as J:KENZO, Icicle and Proxima. His name is synonymous with the immersive end of the genre, something that’s run through everything he’s done over the years.

BAKIR
Ric Baker, better know as Bakir, has been involved at the forefront of the bass music scene in North America since 2008. He has been an influential player as a producer, performer, and label boss.
It began with the formation of the San Francisco based live dubstep group The Spit Brothers. Their Rootsy, live interpretation of dubstep has electrified audiences all over North America with dynamic performances and heavy sub bass vibes. In 2009 Bakir co-founded Dubs Alive Records, one of the west coast's leading bass music labels, releasing the likes of Antiserum, DZ, and many of Bakir’s own tracks.
His TUBA NYC imprint, established in 2010, has amassed an impressive artist roster with the likes of J:Kenzo, Compa, Truth, and AxH releasing on the label. The catalog is defined by it's deep and forward thinking sound.
2014 saw the launch of his latest label project, Grand Ancestor. GA is a white label, bootleg, vinyl only dubwise imprint.
Now based in Brooklyn, Bakir's own productions are defined by his love of sub bass, percussion, and dark atmospherics that are further informed by his background as a jazz trumpet player and composer. He has now added releases on FatKidOnFire, TUBA, Interchill, Dubs Alive, and Full Melt.
Bakir also hosts the TUBA NYC radio show on SUB.FM, a fortnightly event airing on Sundays 2-4pm EST.
