Filtered Growl Bass

I have been trying to recreate or create something like the filtered growls present in this song (00:49) for a long time now and I just can't figure it out. I already have massive and fm8, and I have a good understanding of the programs, so rather than explaining how the growls themselves are made, I would rather like the filtering process explained. Help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use different EQ curves/hipass filter/notch filter, but basically what happens at 00:49-00:50 (*wauuu*) is that lows/low mids from the sound are filtered off and brought back.
