Special Request/Benton/Mella Dee Drums & Basslines?

Post by DomV » Thu Dec 25, 2014 9:50 pm

Hi guys,

Couple of questions:

1. Any idea where to get any of the drum samples in the following tracks?
2. How would I go about making the bassline in GT Turbo (other than what sounds like a lot of distortion)?

Mella Dee - GT Turbo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enE2SVTOcCk

Benton - Brian (They Don't Like The London Sound): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24llfC1gIvU

Tessela - Hackney Parrot (Special Request VIP): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSR3jNZBZlo

Cheers.

1. Layered jungle breaks. EDIT: especially amen break.
2. My money's on it being a basic triangle wave or lowpassed square wave + distortion.

Could you elaborate on your 2nd point? I've messed around with a triangle wave in Ableton's Operator but can't get a sound anywhere near what I'm trying to achieve.

For the bass look in the 808 trap sample packs like Lex Luger, Gucci Mane and Trisample. Pretty sure it came from it
From South of France, fromage and baguette !

Well, to me that sounds just like when I'm making a sub for more midrange heavy track out of low passed square/triangle/sine/808/whatever, stick a limiter on it and drive it too hard. You see, when done right, it adds just a tiny bit of warmth, but when you push the limiter too hard, it starts to distort. I don't know if that guy used a limiter or a real distortion plugin or even something analog, but I'm 99% sure it's nothing more complex than some simple waveform/sample without many higher harmonics + some sort of distortion. Of course there's million limiter/distortion plugins + all hardware stuff in the world and all of them sound a bit different so happy hunting.
