No official word of what has happened any where. From this thread over at IDMfs it seems that perhaps the best guess is someone has bought them out, perhaps hostile takeover style. But if you own any of their products you'll want to get on backing up the installers, libraries etc.

Yea. I was pretty bummed as they were working on Alchemy 2 (like what would have they even added to such a vast synth?)
As a customer, who acquired Alchemy in a trade then bought about half their sample packs for it, I'm really hoping that the install files register themselves offline. Some unsubstantiated posts make all sound well. I'm going to download everything today and try installing it on my laptop offline. Supposedly the libraries have a key file embedded in the installer and that the synth itself won't need any registration

Some guess for buy outs are Ableton, Apple and Logic.

If somebody bought them out, my first guess would be NI.fragments wrote:Some guess for buy outs are Ableton, Apple and Logic.
Hasn't it been pretty much NI Absynth vs CamelAudio Alchemy for some time already? I've seen lots of stuff like "should I buy Absynth?" with answers usually being "get Alchemy, it's a lot better". I think Omnisphere from Spectrasonics could be also added into the same category, but I got a feeling that it's more popular among sound designers than musicians. I could be wrong tho.

Spectrasonics was another guess I think._Agu_ wrote:If somebody bought them out, my first guess would be NI.fragments wrote:Some guess for buy outs are Ableton, Apple and Logic.

I'm not sure it was worth NI's time, money or effort to buy out Camel Audio just because it was an Absynth competitor. NI went a completely different direction--their DJ controllers and dedicated software, Maschine, the new Komplete keyboard controllers. They've also been releasing a lot of niche Reaktor instruments Razor, Spark, Monark that pretty affordable and are priced right to capture a huge share of the young EDM crowd who aren't willing to spend a lot of money. But you are correct that a lot of the core features of Absynth and Alchemy are very similar. You are also correct, having used both Absynth and Alchemy a lot I would recommend Alchemy. Overall much easier to wrap your head around.
I don't understand the Apple one tbh.
Some people said Ableton because they've been integrating so much 3rd party software into their DAW recently and Logic because they might be looking to up their native plug in game.

I don't get the Apple thing either. Unless they are going to release something new soon, It wouldn't be probably worth it for them to buy CamelAudio. Logic doesn't really have any competing synth in it at least yet. Synths in Logic are actually more basic than ones in FL Studio, apart from Sculpture maybe. Logic's stock fx are just really really good. On the other hand they could be planning on finally having a granular stock synth, but I'd still say it would bring more profit to first release a proper fm synth instead.
One really wild thought: Maybe it's Propellerhead and they are trying to make people pay for the over-priced Reason, so they can get their hands on Alchemy 2 rack extension

Re: So, did you hear, Camel Audio has gone tits up?
Apple literally has billions and billions of cash on hand, with no where to put it. They could buy ten CA's and it wouldn't even make it out of a rounding error.

Re: So, did you hear, Camel Audio has gone tits up?
Well, shit. I think alchemy is a fantastic synth and I'm bummed I would have the opportunity to buy it (I've demoed it and LOVE the player). I also think there libraries are just awesome. Some of my favorite sounds came out of some iap's on my iPad.
It's a shame really. Hopefully it's just a partnership sort of thing going on where well still get to see/hear the minds behind camel still work.

I don't really give a shit about Camel Audio, but it's a shame that it sunk. With that, the market has slightly less competition :/
