ok, that piece is totally harsh but i do think there is a coffee table gloopiness to the beats and a lack of meaningful substance to the whole record.
the gorillaz really have shaped the market for this sort of stuff. hip hop reconstituted from Hip Hop. i appreciate the pop of gorillaz but this doesn't quite float my boat.
cee-lo's voice just grates on me and the production makes me retch. the Danger Mouse album Ghetto Pop Life was much better than this.

I havent heard this yet, im looking forward to it tho, i have heard some very aggressive opinions about it! I absolutely loved ghetto pop life, one of the biggest hip-hop albums for me in recent times...i have a bit of a soft spot for dangermouse, although dangerdoom didnt take me the same way.
Interesting idea tho...hip-hop reconstituted from hip-hop...what would you define as the true core of hip-hop though? Its history has been one of mostly constant evolution in one direction or another, from the early disco influenced days, electro, 808, boombap, dirty south, and thats just to trace a very linear and incomplete line (one not close to representative of the actual situation), but one kind of demonstrative of what im trying to get at- to what extent are people like dangermouse reconstituting hip-hop away from hip-hop, as opposed to simply modifying the sound in a way that could equally be conceived as within 'hip-hop'...he is obviously influenced by music that has probably not touched hip-hop much before, but hip-hop from its earlist days has been about exactly that...
