questions on logic studio?

Post by dabwa » Fri Nov 09, 2007 2:08 pm

ayo, i been workin my way thru the logic bible but only so many hours in the day,i havent had logic very long so im still gettin used to it!
some pretty stupid fukin questions here but if u can answer any wud be appreciated!

1:ok when i get a sample out of a synth say the es1,how do i get the sample in to the sample editor,it shows up in the piano roll but it says nothin to display when i go to the sample editor,is this because its a software instrument track and not a audio track?(so far iv been gettin them as close as i can to how i want it to sound but its hard to get it jus how i want it,myb i jus need more practise on the synths and timing??)

2:is there a button in logic where i can set the key sensitivity on my keyboard,im guessin its on my keyboard but never know, i didnt see it in the instruction manual?

3:what do you find the best way to get your samples in time? do you record them in then quantize them,or play with them in piano roll manually?

safe if u made it this far!

yeah, you confusing audio instruments (virtual synths)
and audio tracks,...
if you want to use the output of your synths as audio
you have to bounce or digital mixdown the output of your synth and import it as audio....

3d question...timing: record, quantize if u want, correct manually

The Novation stuff usually has touch adjustment, is there an editor program for it? I have an XStation, its buried in a submenu in that.....

ahh yeaaa sorted,i was lookin for key sensitivity, came under touchvel or somthing sorted now!! no need to stay sober

jus outta curiosity what synths are u using?
iv been using the es1 manily find it easier to get the right sounds but all seem very simular after a while!
didnt have much luck with es2 have to set more time aside to learn that 1 i think!
i was using massive but it stopped workin keeps crashing when opening samples that was amazing for bass tho!!
i can use absynth but cant change the sounds without it crashin,im gonna have to buy it an get a legit copy soon, probally get massive!

The absolute best Minimoog emu I've found is Minimonsta. It has extra LFOs that the original didn't have. It's a bit of a weapon. I'd grab that, but it's more than 10 bucks.

I don't think we'll see Logic running on the PC again without mad hackery. Even if you do get OS X running on a PC, it's going to be unstable as hell due to all the random nasty hardware that people shove in there.

since we are discussing the new logic, im gonn athrow my own questions in. mainly, i dont use a midi controller. i just play out on my type keyboard. now, in logic express 7 i would record midi changes using the channel strip midi setting.(it used to be in the drop menu with theread/write/touch and latch options). all those options are there except for midi. how do i record my changes now? come on you geniuses, tell me!!

yo blood

couple of ways to do it. easiest way would be to load up an instrument channel and play yr part or write it in. then hit 'v' for viewing automation, pick the parameter you want to edit in the synth and BOOM-- it's there.

OR

play yr part and then put the track into latch mode like you would have done before. play and do all the tweakin' you want-- then open up automation and further refine. tres sexy, this.

if you wan to record automation, etc in in real-time after you get a midi controller, then you can easily assign any knob/switch/doodad/whatchamajigit to control whatever visible automation is up-- makes automatin' yr wobbles a whole lot easier (or ASDR-based filter sweeps, if yr doin' bassline).

any time you wanna pass thru my 'hood mansion and get busy w/ logic yr more than welcome.

and as we all know, if it ain't halfstep with a wobble, then it's not dubstep!
