recommend a mix
an idea that might spread some joy...
each recommend ONE mix (available to download) that you've caned this year, that has stayed with you in particular... that has meant something to you or affected you in a particular way
and then maybe a short description
to get the ball rolling im gonna say
Lenodd - Carl Craig Anthology Vol 2
beautifully programmed and perfectly mixed, an amazing insight for the uninitiated into the slightly more recent works of Carl Craig
for me a complete revelation... my first real experience of techno soul. highly recommended for anyone who doesn't know about him

^^ Nice mix, so many classics in there.
Im gonna recommend Blogariddims 11 by Wayne & Wax as it is probably my all time favourite mix. Goes through a whole spectrum of different genres and maintains the funk throughout. Love it.

I'd go for Whistla's Hardcore special off the subfm archive. This man has so many tunes from back in the day that I'd totally forgotten about.

It's full of classic tunes and his knowledge of that era, both events and tunes, is spot on. Large up Whistla.

I don't download a lot of mixes, and I'm not sure of the legalities of downloading mixes recorded off, say, Radio 1, so no links for just now.
The mix I've been caning this year would be Distance and Vex'd on the Breezeblock. I'm sure most folk here have heard it, but it was just the perfect segue into dubstep for me.

Downloaded this mix quite a while ago but never gave it much of a listen until recently when I read All Crews and Energy Flash. Shut up and Dance were effectively one of the founders (or at least pioneers) of breakbeat hardcore/jungle, although originally they were only looking to make sped up hip-hop (and weren't that positive about the acid house/rave phenomenon- see 'I'm raving I'm raving' which questions the reality of the ecstacy buzz). So this is worth listening to for any jungle heads from a historical perspective at the very least (Hooligan 69 feat. the Ragga Twins is basically one of the original ragga jungle tunes).
It's also full of wicked tunes, and helps - with its use of blatant pop samples, pretty simplistic breakbeats etc. - to remind me that rave/club music doesn't have to be massively sophisticated to work, and can be fun without being comical. I can imagine these tunes wrecking up warehouses.
10:50 - Shut Up And Dance - Say Party (Club Dub Mix) - 1995 = my favourite tune on it, I'm a sucka for a euphoric synth section

The Carl Craig one is excellent. Don't suppose youve got vol 1 ?

Started listening to the Carl Craig mix last night before drifting off into nightmarish sleep (me Derrick May and a sampler hooked up to my balls to my vocal chords) and I likes it a lots. Techno is weird for me because I've read more about it than I've heard of it, so when I listen to it I always think 'that doesn't sound like techno'- even though evidently it must.
The blogariddims crunk geneology thing is also great, didn't like all of it but very interesting the way the rhythms sustain themselves, mutate etc. I suppose that sort of swing that you get in reggae/dancehall appears again in garage before dubstep.
More people should post mixes.
