Parasite/City 2 City Zomboy growl question

Post by Fool018 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 2:46 pm

Ok, I've spent some time trying to find a sample of the main growl heard in Zomboy's Parasite remix and City 2 City (he's notorious for using samples after all). Does anyone know if he used samples to achieve it? vengeance perhaps? It will save me hours of searching for if anyone can give me some input.
Here's the loop I'm talking about

Any help is appreciated! It's been driving me crazy for a while now lol.

I don't think that that he samples his growls. I would start with this tutorial, jaymac hits it pretty well.

The Growl is definitely not a sample I would say it's fm8 (Zomboys Growls are actually pretty easy to make in fm8 the hard part comes with the fx chain)
they kill people ?

Thanks for the replies guys, I kinda had a feeling it wasn't a sample since it sounded a little bit unique. I'll have a play around with FM8 and massive and see where i can go from there.

I dunno about that. I haven't heard an FM patch yet that sounds like his growl. His other signature basses seem pretty well created in Massive and that Jaymac video is pretty good.

I have always wondered what he is using these days. I would think he is emulating skrilly and doing FM synth by now....I think his terror squad riff is FM because all massive patches sound like shit And it has that signature FM harmonic comPlexity. Growls...I don't know...do you have an example of a zomboy FM patch?

Hahaha you could be the first one ever to use the word "unique" in a Zomboy thread

lol what I meant by "unique" was that it wasn't your typical generic sample pack growl. It sounded great in the aforementioned songs, and I wish he used it for his newer stuff too tbh.

You know what though...there was that one dude who posted an FM8 patch that said Zomboy used it from a sample pack that he had. I will eat my words that I previously said. I think it was a quick little off shot growl in a track.

Yeah that's the yt video with Dan Larsson demonstrating the growl that zomboy used from his monster bass sample pack. Really nice pack too, bought it myself after someone referenced it to me in another topic I made. Best 30 bucks I've spent.
