To be honest, I like how the compressor brings out the tail of the bass and I despite the sound being static in theory, I tend to see some spikes in dB when I'm hitting the bass notes closer together... To be be honest I wouldn't even compress the bass if it's a synth as the dynamic range is going to be consistent already and if you want grunge just use some distortion (asymmetrical clipping would be best for to keep it prominent in the mix, that's what valves do anyway). Same with the kick if it's something you've sampled from music that's already been mixed and mastered.
Otherwise, yeah, put them in to the same compressor and get the threshold to trigger when they both hit together.
For the verby claps, highpass them but use a gradual Q from the mids down put some resonance on it to have a bit of slap in it
