Why are some producers so stingy with their dubs?
Why are some producers so stingy with their dubs?
Basically I'm sick of hearing tunes I really like on radio sets and then never getting to own / even hear the full release. Don't get me wrong, I have the up most respect for the dubstep producers, but if a good tune has not been signed and isn't going to be released then why not distribute it? Surely producers distributing their dubs would only increase the popularity of the genre, even if we were made to pay for them. In a nut shell: im sick of hearing short and low-quality clips of decent tunes. I wanna hear the whole tune if it's not going to be released. Does anyone feel pissed off in this way being an "end user" in the genre?

yeh, its fucking annoying. Dubplate culture so they say...
The funniest bit is when people are saying tunes shouldnt come out!, there was a discussion about skreams lemon here the other day with people actually saying they hope it never comes out, so fucking backwards..
I couldnt imagine this happening outside of dance music really..

To be fair to the artist. No a days a lot of people download music and don't pay for it so if you already have a load of tunes out and your well known in the scene why release a tune so people can sit at home and download it for free and not come your shows.Ok people will prob come regardless but I think what we are seeing is artist adapting to the new ways in which the industry is going. Albums should be released for the fans and for promotion but why release every tune you make. makes it a bit more special if its dubplate! Doesn't Skream make a tune a day? Surely he cant release all dem!
if u cant release a tune, dont wanna release a tune, why bother wasting ur airtime on radio on promoting something that will never see the light of the day? Will Schiller wrote:To be fair to the artist. it annoys me too

i am for saving the specials for raves, thats hype when u hear something like that for the first time and on the big ssFractal wrote:not everythings for sell, somethings should just be enjoyed in the moment they exist
do we need to own and rinse everything?
but
playing them ones on radio is a bit weak i think.
raves = rather fun than promotion
radio = rather promotion than fun
It takes time, money and a lot of effort to release a tune.n9_n9_n9 wrote:if u cant release a tune, dont wanna release a tune, why bother wasting ur airtime on radio on promoting something that will never see the light of the day?

Producers don't sit in the studio and make tunes for the sole purpose of releasing them. If they did, they would only bother to make about five a year thanks to the above constraints.
They make tunes because that is what they love to do. They make what they want to make - not all of it is meant to be released, they just made it because that's what came out.
Wouldn't you rather hear as much new music by them as possible even though you know you'll only ever be able to actually buy a small handful?

Start making your own tunesjasonn wrote:Basically I'm sick of hearing tunes I really like on radio sets and then never getting to own / even hear the full release. I suppose a producer is going to be alot more critical about their own work, and by the time tracks get round to being released, they themselves, as producers, have probably improved tenfold, and have a much better roster of songs. So songs, will always get lost in the archives.
And i suppose, as far as the artist is concerned, the money for them (not that that is necessarily the priority) comes prominently from live appearances as opposed to vinyl sales, so it bears no odds to them whether an older tune has been released or not.

im not saying every producer should take the time and expense to release every tune they make, but if i hear somthing i like i would be perfectly willing to pay just as much for an 320 of it as I would a vinyl (like £4 - £5).
I just find it hard to totally appreciate a tune if I only hear 1 min of it on a radio mix. For example, you rarely get to hear the intro of a dubplate played on air.
