Facebook Event

After January’s successful versus night we’re back with another, installing two behemoths of Boomtown across both rooms of the Volks - The Leisure Centre and The Job Centre.

Giving a feel of the festival and trying to raise some much needed dosh for each venue, we’ll be bringing decor and production styles from each, combining the retro-futuristic spandex mayhem of one with the dystopian workfare drudgery of the other. Plus a belter of a lineup that represents both, including…

PHATWORLD
(Off Me Nut Records)
Headlining both venues at Boomtown last year and ramming each, Phatworld have gone from strength to strength with their first vinyl release dropping last year as well as a new Phatworld vs Squires EP. They’ll be bringing the bounciest bassline this side of Boomtown to the Volks.

THORPEY
(Chip Butty/Certified Bangers/Off Me Nut)
Thorpey has stepped up his game in the last year, with plays on Rinse and releases on Chip Butty and Tumble Audio's sister label, Certified Bangers, citing a slight change in his musical direction but still bringing fire to the dance. Warped basslines and rave synths are the order of the day here.

BLOCK DODGER
(Metafiziq/Guillotine)
Influenced by the Life4land crew and free party culture in general, Block Dodger’s been purveying the darker side of drum and bass for years, playing across the UK and Europe and releasing on several scene-leading labels. Expect hard-as-fuck, whiplash DnB - not for pussies.

MUSTARD GUNN
(Coin-Operated)
Veteran of the London techno/rave scene, and founder of one of dance music's more forward-thinking labels - Coin Operated Records - introducing many to the likes of Kanji Kinetic, The Squire of Gothos, Jerome Hill, Michael Forshaw and Pirate Soundsystem.
Extra love for this label as they release strictly on vinyl AND coined the term Mutant Bass.
Mustard Gunn’s been slaying dancefloors for years with his wonk-driven sets, and this one will be no exception.

JIM BITCH
(Badabitch/Bitchin Sessions)
Hackney rave general who’s been to more parties than you’ve had hot dinners. This legend of the scene will be bringing a bag stuffed with the fattest hip hop, dancehall and jungle slammers - watch those bassbins.

DEADBEAT
(Tumble Audio/Off Me Nut/In The Face)
No introduction needed - Deadbeat UK is well known on the scene for his bass-heavy bangers. With support from Radio 1 and 1Xtra plus a guest mix on Rinse, he’s signed to a variety of labels including Tumble Audio, topping the Juno sales charts with his last EP. Deadbeat is seriously hot property at the moment, and his live sets demonstrate why. His love of garage is evident in the music, though the basslines get a front-centre role, and the Sheff influence is clearly heard throughout.

HADEAN
(In the Face/Chip Butty/Tumble Audio)
Since his return to the UK, Hadean has upped his game, churning out the bangers for your listening pleasure. With an EP imminent on Tumble Audio plus a vinyl release on our very own In The Face label he’s one to watch this year.

BUSTER
(Off Me Nut/Artificial Beast)
Brixton-based producer who certainly knows his way around an amen break. Chopped up, ragga-influenced jungle that sounds like a drone strike in Jamrock. Big things ahead from this little badman.

KAFKR
(Nasty FM/Bass City/Rinse FM)
When not behind the buttons at Rinse, Kafkr can be found hosting her regular show on Nasty FM or knocking out sub-heavy sets at clubs and festivals across the country, drawing on futureproof techno, house, garage and grime. 2015 looks set to be a big year for one of London’s most promising female selectas.

RAY PEST
(Armada)
A fully qualified professional on the free party/rave scene, Ray Pest knows how deal with the matter, and deal with it proper. Armed with only the ruffest and tuffest in jungle and DnB, get ready for a ruckus.

PAPA B
(Hundred Years/Unit 137)
Spearheading two labels and running the horns for UK reggae powerhouse OnlyJoe, Papa B can also be found behind the counter at Bristol record shop Maggie Scratchers. With an unholy arsenal of wax at his disposal, expect anything from dub and dancehall to gangsta rap and garage.

TROPICAL SELECTA
(Tropical Bass Station)
A founding member of the mighty Tropical Bass Station as well as a regular on Nasty FM, Tropical Selecta mashes up soca beats with earth-shattering basslines, and plays a variety of sounds, from bassline through jungle and tek, all with an eye to the tropical.
