Drum Samples VS Synthesis

Post by SaveMidnight » Tue Mar 17, 2015 9:42 pm

Do you guys prefer using drum samples/breaks or synthesis?

Like if you had to only do one or the other forever?

I do both, but if I had to choose, it would be samples. Unless they invent a synth that really sounds like an acoustic drum, I can't figure how I could deal with only using synthesized drums. I would need to probably switch into minimal house & techno or something.

Definitely samples, I like to grab about 16 or so samples that I like and make a kit out of them in Battery 4 then spend a decent amount of time making beats with them. I wouldn't want to bog myself down with synthesizing 12-16 different percussion sounds every time I want to make a tune. Would just make the beat making process take wayyyyyyy longer, and I already spend a pretty good amount of time creating beats with samples. :Q:

I like samples more because its just easier to drop in a finished product that doesnt need much tweaking, so when my creative juices get flowing, I dont get stuck.

That being said, I like to synthesize and layer samples in their own project and then bounce them to .wav to use in my music.
