Techno head

Post by markenstien » Fri Nov 23, 2007 9:24 pm

Hey guys,

I've been listening to dubstep for about a year now and come from a techno background, I still love techno but i have to say that right now dubstep is the most exciting thing going on musically.

Some of the shit going on out there blows my mind!

Been producing techno for a while now but think i'm gonna start adventuring into the dubstep world, any tips out there?

Anyway just thought i'd introduce myself and say hi,

Take it easy guys!

yeah man, these are some of my faves already. had the pleasure of meeting skream a few weeks back.

I'm really loving stuff by skynet too.

Really into the hard evil sound, anyone recommend any of the real evil shit for me?

Don't know about 'evil', but Threnody makes some very filthy glitchy stuff. Check out some of his show archives in the Mixes section. He plays similar styles by others like Sully and Succulent C too.

If you're into the techy side of life then I can highly recommend you check out a DJ Pinch set. I saw him a month or so back & he blew us away down here in New Zealand.

Headhunter is also making some good techy stuff along with 2562
Tes La Rok is also a must no matter what style of dubstep you're into

By the sounds of things I reckon milanese fit the bill pretty darn well! But you may very well be miles ahead of me there :D

And whoever said check a Pinch set...was right!

It's kind of funny, I actually got into techno through dubstep. I used to be a straight up junglist and jaded for that matter, but after I got pretty immersed into dubstep I started realizing that techno was really close to the sound and also a lot of fun. Now I'm all about techno and prefer the dubstep that has that crossover aspect such as shackleton, peverlist, pinch, 2562, mala, martyn, and even skream just to name a few. I've even had a lot of fun mixing dubstep tunes with straight up techno like the shit on ghostly and other labels. It all works together and sometimes it's hard to tell what's dubstep and what's techno. Fuck it, it's all good.

Time to go rave.

I'm recommend Kode 9's Go Magazine Sonar mix on Gotdarker and Scuba's N16 mix just in case you haven't heard both. They're put together like techno mixes (Scuba does some 3 deck blends). Kode's mix is a great showcase for DS's diversity. Pulling tracks out of these mixes is a good way of isolating artists and sounds in DS that you might like.

Btw Surgeon, your names Rob and not Anthony right? you mentioning HOG has me confused.

hey techead.
its all said over here, there are some artists producing some brilliant crossover those days though you should check out those Echospace (DeepChord) beats as well as Maurizio, Basic Channel, Vainqueur, T++, Scion, Rhythm and Sound and so on...
they arent really dubstep but if u dig techno you check them out, maybe you will get some influences and some experimentation.
Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?
