Dubstep / Grime in computer games.

Post by pete_bubonic » Tue Nov 27, 2007 9:34 am

DnB gets used in computer games (mainly racing games) all the time, because of it's dominant frequency range and it's aggression.

I swear the majority of gamers have a decent sound setup wih some multimedia sub etc. So what is stopping it from being used in games? At the moment, I always have a couple of my favourite mixes replacing the music in C&C3, Need for Speed Carbon, Halflife 2. Gets me proper into it and when there's a nice sub rumble in the room, you know you're gonna get immersed.

Just some thoughts, what do you reckon, what games would you like to see with a dubstep/grime soundtrack?

GTA4 backed by Soul Food 2!
Crysis backed by Dubstep Allstars vol.2!
Super Mario Galaxy backed by a Shackleton mix would be mind bending!

A London edition of GTA would work well for Dubstep and, especially, Grime.

Yeah for real. Years ago when I was doing a bit of programming I was looking at how to create games and thinking of creating a London version of GTA, obviously very different from GTA itself though. Still, I wanna do it one day.

Yeah it was a bit shit to be honest. Was nice hearing proper LDN accents and northeners in a game though!

GTA2 LDN was pretty funny, but that was before it went 3D.
I'm sure at some point down the line in the franchise they will do another LDN one, depending on sales figures obviously.

Sure have heard some dubstep styled tracks on a couple PS3 demos.

The Getaway was decent imo. Love the accents.

Some of Cyrus's stuff would fit perfectly in a game like that.

Fucking large.

Maybe as a project a few of us could mimic the film rescore project that is being shown on channel 4 (I think - Terror Danjah rescoring Blade Runner etc) and remake the score for some classic games? Pretty easy to implement, just getting everything comiled and distributed, might have a look into this. Although I love the music for Diablo II as is, I would still love some twisted Kode, Cyrus, Distance and Pinch. In fact maybe mention to Rob I want to do a Tectonic rework of it! Hahaha, it'd be fun.
