Headphones

Can anybody recommend any good headphones that have a reasonable frequency range for use when tinkering on a laptop (with shite speakers!)?

For bass responce etc. I can only recommend either Beyer Dynamic HD-150 or Sennheiser HD-25-1 (70 ohm model).

i love love love my fostex t-40s. Comfortable, solid and cheap at the price.

However, i HAVE to recommend these - they're great all-around headphones if you're on a really tight budget - US$20 for the base version and US$30 for the deluxe (+ US$6 shipping worldwide). And they're not pissy little things, either! Solid construction, good response between 30 - 18,000 Hz, light and comfortable. They're a bit harsh and REALLY heavy bass can set up a bit of a buzz, but for f*ck's sake, they're studio cans for 20 bucks! I use them as my field recording cans and for listening to my iRiver on the tram...

I got Sony MDR7506s. Very expensive, but very good - but headphones are unbelievably personal choices. I know plenty fo people who can't stand mine, while I couldn't live with some of the ones mentioned on this thread.

Maybe go to Turnkey - one of the few things they do well is headphone testing. You can spend ages going through different pairs checking them off iPod tracks.

I bought myself the beyerdynamic DT990 PRO. Its an open headphone with a response from 5-35,000 Hz, so you will hear the sub and everything else. Not suitable for mixing vinyl, but good for late night composing sessions.

I use Sony MDR-V700DJ's...
Great for playing out and good for mixing down (5-30,000Hz)
..plus they're well comfortable on the head

i've listened to both and i swear that the sony MDR-V150 use the same drivers as the above model, but they cost about £15 (even cheaper on ebay - new of course! secondhand cans? eeew!) i've used em for everything (writing/monitoring/mixdown) for years. surprisingly flat and accurate for cans. alright for live djing but a bit quiet!

I have one of those. They're allright but you'll need a roll of duct tape to hold the pieces of the plastic bail together.
