Who is innovating right now....

Post by hedfukkah » Wed Dec 12, 2007 3:39 pm

There is often threads on here focusing on the negatives of ***step becoming formulaic....(everything is dubby, everything is halfstep, everything is wobble)...etc..... Of course we can all observe trends and the reasons for this are quite obvious (and well debated!)...

So interesting to see original innovator Benny Ill back on it and the whispers are that Toasty is coming back with the goodness!!

So got me thinking....

Who are the innovators in the scene as present. Not neccessarily your favourite producers or those who create fantastic 'dubstep' but rather those that are INNOVATING within the scene...creating new sounds, bouncing on the fringes, making new waves....

Of course Boxcutter and Burial are working on the peripharies and Mala always comes in with a fresh approach but who else is deconstructing the sound to create something fresh and unique???

Immerse roster (Kuma, Djunya, Borg, Horsepower, TRG etc), not in any way meant to be arrogant but thats why i signed the tunes....

Other arists Martyn, Peverelist, Pangea, untold, Late, Wascal etc

But for me 2562/A Made up Sound every time, big up Dave!

geiom, clouds, tes la rok (think hes making such diverse tunes atm), headhunter, kode9 (always pushing), Burial, Mala and Coki (no matte what you say that pair are always making something new and something innovative) Hold tight each and ever producer, Pinch, Vex'd and Boxcutter also making some next level productions.

Boxcutter, though stop usin the same damn drum loops please...Pinch is good too, takin a different angle. I can't wait for more Toasty stuff - the don of dubstep IMO!

think most of the bases have been covered

id add whistla to the list as well. he's totally different approach to dubstep than most with what he's calling step core

and whether or not people like his 'jump up' style, ruskos definitely innovating. taking a different approach to dubstep to most

mental the amount of people namechecking Toasty. Obviously he's a complete DON, but apart from On Something there haven't been any new tunes from him in the last coupla years (that I've heard of).

like the native americans: put your ear to the (under)ground to check what's coming, look around to see what's up, close your eyes to see what's gone

dunno mate, there's been quite a few really:

Reflect is coming soon on Destructive, and Live Life Feel It on Urban Graffiti. Yea not Skream levels of output but most of his well-known old shizzle has made it out now, apart from As One, No Prisoners, Full Clip and the Candyfloss remix(es).

Threnody did an all Toasty mix on his show a while back if you need to hear more, should be on the archives at SubFm. Was very good.
