FX without the sample..

I'm using FL studio 7 and I'd like to record the reverb or whatever fx without the sample underneath if anybody could help please...

I've looked high and low on the interwebs and can't find this specifically... I have a pretty good grasp of the mixer and the programme otherwise but I cant find a way to route the effect on it's own for recording..

Do you mean, u want to record ONLY the output of the FX, not of the sample itself?

then set the FX up on a send track, route then sample to this send, then jus arm the send track for disk recording? should work shouldn't it?

Yeah, I only want the output of the fx, I tried your suggestion with no luck, it still records the sound too, even with the fx channel I used for the send muted, the synth is still playing with the reverb.

Any other ideas please??

i'm not sure if you can, because if there's no sample then there wil be nothing for the FX to effect and you will just have silence

Use the reverb as an insert, set the wet/dry mix to 100% wet, and sample away.

Really can't think why you would want to though, unless it's some creative use / secret weapon i haven't thought of.

Bit late to give it a try tonight but I'll give it a whirl tomorrow, thanks a lot..

I read about using just the fx noise in the rest of the tune to add ambiance, a kind of feel of the other sounds in the mix.. not a secret weapon as such, just really wanted to try it and couldn't find out how.. Auan, your a very giving guy.. I see loads of your posts, always helpful.

Yeah I posted then walked to work with Burial on the headphones and realised that's exactly what he's doing on a lot of his intros.

You need to use a pre-fader and turn the volume down to zero on the track

try using reverb freeze if you have in FLS 7....

or trying to automate the volume of a..., for eg a snare, and pull down the volume of the sample when sound end, and rec only the tail of the sound....

for eg. in traktor 3 there is a reverb freeze feature that can do the trick.

naturally depending from the sample that you efectize with the reverb, the tail's colour change...

Thanks for posting but Auan sorted it already.. I didn't want ANY of the the source sound in my recording... I'm using it to great effect now...

I couldn't see the woods for the trees, I was trying to separate the source and the effect pre-mixer... but Auan pointed out I needed to use the wet/dry control on the effect... SORTED!
