I do a Geography degree and Dubai is on the way to becoming the first Arab Tiger economy, mainly because it's using cheap south Asian labour and maintains a friendly outward image. Dubaians aren't really the people working to get these skyscrapers finished, most Dubaians work in tourism or the related industries and do fairly well.

People are homeless here too you know, and what makes it worse, the poor people in this country have to get two jobs to feed the mouths of their children they had at teenagers. Not like our people can just pitch up and start growing a crop like other nations.
