studio headphones
word
I'm looking for a set of studio headphones and tbh I don't really know what to go for
I'd like a pair of sennheisers but I'm not too sure what to look for in them, or which ones will be better.
Also, are pro-audio any good? On my visit to Maplins I saw what looked like a decent pair with decent cancellation, but I don't exactly know what I really need.
I'm also not that rich so can only probably go up to £100 if that
Any advice/tips/help'd be greatly appreciated!

Re: studio headphones
Sorry to bump an old thread but it saves making a new one to ask virtually the same question.
Looking to buy a pair of studio monitoring headphones. Have narrowed it down to Sennheiser HD650's, Beyerdynamic DT880's or Audio-Technica ATH-M50. Thought I would ask here before making an investment as you'll likely be using them for the same purposes.
Budget is a maximum of £250 ($400).
Cheers anyone who can help!

Re: studio headphones
Best monitoring headphones atm are Focal Spirit Pro's. They are closed and even
low impedance, but still.

Re: studio headphones
Cheers for the shout. Hadn't come across these previously, could only find one bad review and I reckon they were just being fussy. Have ordered a pair and will let you all (anyone else buying headphones) know how I find them.
Re: studio headphones
i just found the GRADO SR60's for $150 today.......how do they compare to the pricier model?
Re: studio headphones
Im not sure what your location is Sinastac, but the SR80i's are usually $99 here and the 125i's are $150 (usd)
$150 for the 60i's is pretty expensive!
I've tried the 60i, 80i, and 125i before. I heard a big sound quality jump from the 60i to the 80i, but not as big of a difference between the 80i and 125i. I think the 80i is the best choice $$$-wise.
Just a word of warning, they will probably be really uncomfortable at first but the pad's soften up after some use and your ears get used to the feeling pretty quickly. They sound incredible though.

Re: studio headphones
Just to stir things up a bit, I do highly rate the Beyer 880 pros.
Semi open backs, Apparently it's good for studio/production use, creating a flat response by letting the sound bleed out slightly so you don't over/under do it with low end stuff etc.

Re: studio headphones
I've been using HD202s all my life, time for an upgrade.
HD280s look sick, can not afford anything better at the moment, so I think they're perfect

Re: studio headphones
forgot about this thread.....i decided to opt out for a pair of audeze LCD 2s...best decision i ever made!
Re: studio headphones
what im using right now is a pair of ATH-M50x's and they're unbelievable, they're affordable so i picked up a Topping TP-30 DAC and the difference is night and day with it. I almost prefer that setup over my Yamaha HS50M/HS10W's

Re: studio headphones
Well might be a very mainstream suggestion but I got the ATH-M50s as well and they sound incredible to me. However, I don't have any previous experience with other good quality headphones but I know their sound well and I can produce well on them. My room setup is less than ideal, so you can really hear that they bring out stuff I can't hear with my monitors.
Re: studio headphones
I've been using AKG-240 MKIIs for about 2 years now. My room is damn small and has really shitty acoustics, so I use my monitors for 1% of the time and headphones for 99%.
