Headphones!

Post by deapoh » Mon May 15, 2006 2:21 am

Ok I've decided I'm gonna get some new headphones seeing as the connetion in the left ear is bare dodge and that they're part broken.

Still what would you recommend thats heavy for mixing and producing but not costing too much? £50. £100 the very top price but I'd prefer something a lot lot cheaper ya get me!

I like my Sennheiser HD-25s...but they're probably about 139 pounds sterling.

You can get hd25's for 120 quid from www.decks.co.uk

Bit more than you're budgeting for but well worth the money. I've had mine for close to four years and they're still doing a fantastic job. Haven't been particularly kind to them either, they've taken a good battering over the years. They're pretty much standard for DJing and are pro studio monitoring headphones apparently, so they're good for producing too.

if you want headphones for mixing and producing you will be sacrificing something. When your mixing you want the best closed headphones and when your producing open headphones give better sound quality.

If you buy open headphones you will have to crank it to even be able to hear them in a club. But for just at home it would be good enough. Then you wouldnt sacrifice any sound quality for producing.

But there are some closed headphones now that are starting to sound much better for producing although still not as good as open headphones. (the openness allows air to be moved and you hear bass more accuratly, very important for making dubstep.)

choose wisely ;)

I reccomend these technics:

Bought them about a month ago, i prefere them to HD25's but its personal preference.

On the other hand, I don't like Sennheissers at all. They keep falling off my ears and then the leads end up stangling me. More sensible head phone wearers are able to avoid the strangulation though
I got the Sony's for £80 and they are the shit :D

of the hd25s and hte technics rpdh1200 which is better purely for mixing, im not interested in production.? dont mind spending round 100 for a decent pair.

And what about listening to portable mp3 players, are they good for that?

I have done this when buying small electronic things like webcams and you can save alot of money if you order products from china or singapore on e-bay. As far as i can remember i got my product in less than 2 weeks but i have never done this with anything this big before so dont quote me on that.

Anyways heres an example of what you can save:

Retail at decks.co.uk for just under 110 pound so not bad saving.

Just got a pair of Sennheiser HD280 on the weekend:

Really impressed with them so far and they're only £75 from Chemical Records.
I know ThinKing does / did use them, so if they're good enough for him ...
