Dread bass. Twisted dancehall beats faster than garage but slower than dnb. Futuristic dub music for the ganja minded, made with machines but still pretty organic sounding - sampling hand percussion, ethnic instrumentation, rudeboy vocal samples - alongside dark futuristic synths and basses. Made for the dancefloor but supremely head nodding skunked out vibes.

International dubstep scene?
It's the latest incarnation and fusion of dub reggae and underground electronica...mostly instrumental
It started when strains of what was known as garage went underground, mutated and emerged as grime, the UK MC based genre and what has now become known as dubstep, the mostly instrumental version
It's about big phat broken, staggered beats and more bass than you can shake a stick at...
...my culture is polynesian in values and traditions it'd be different for somone making beats from someplace else. If we have anything in common it's probably an affinity towards minimal, underground, experimental, electronic of the instrumental variety that you can smoke weed to and that the weed heightens the pleasure of listening to the music
Fashion is subjective and media is just hype...
...international dubstep scene ??? yup...do a rollcall on the nationalities up in this joint...

Re: WHAT IS DUBSTEP?
Just about any country which has an active breakbeat or drum'n'bass -scene, I think dubstep can be seen as a logical developement to these.dubmugga wrote: ...international dubstep scene ??? yup...do a rollcall on the nationalities up in this joint...
Don't know about the most active, UK (duh), The States, Belgium?
I've only been into dubstep/grime for a bout a year and half or so ... I got introduced to it by a mate of mine ... It was difficult to get a hold of records for a while in Newcastle but the shops have got their shit together steel wheels and RPM both now carry alot of stuff now.I would definatley go along with the line that it is a progression of garage/instrumental electronica and drum and bass ... I used to produce D+B took a couple of years out to do a degree and while I still love drum and bass its dubstep that has taken up the mantle of progressing heavy beats and bass........ thinking back to mid nineties the air liquide and caspar pound album electronic dub was way way ahead of its time !!
please people let's recognise the real: dubstep did not evolve out of grime, it predated it - they evolved in parallel.
