nah i can't just listen to one genre, i listen to lots of reggae, dub, hip hop, dubstep, various old music, jungle, breaks and weird tunes that my friends and i make.

if you listen to one genre too much you become musically-narrow-minded. people might make out that dubstep is the saviour of all music etc etc, but it is not so great that all the other genres must become obsolete.

i go thru little phases of only listening to one thing, then realise i'm losing contact with the world and open up to other music again. but lately i've been listening to only dubstep, tried some speed garage today cos i was feeling musically isolated and had to put my caspa and rusko back in the cd player by about 3pm lol

i don't know if you can really apply that to a largely instrumental genre.

i'd argue that you can. there are levels at which you can listen to something. ranging from simply hearing it, to listening to it intently and deeply.

and now with the prominence of massive tunes in the rave, the wobblers if you will, the climate of being able to just close your eyes and listen to the music has been attacked.

the success of such big tunes seems somewhat superficial when there are really fantastic pieces of dubstep which get overlooked. hence my statement.

i'm not saying people can't listen intently but just that it seems to be happening less frequently than before.

and don't get me wrong, i like to brock out as much as the next man. but given the way that some of the music has switched up and the consequence of this in the club, i do think that it's getting harder for people to listen properly.

but then again everyone can chose what to do with their own ears.

I listen to anything and everything these days. The more diverse my musical diet, the lower my sensitivity is to the 'genre', allowing me to hear the music for what it is.

Yeh i deffo find if i play a tune while im doing one thing, then again while doing somthing different, my brain will tend to listen to parts of it differently. It might be that i didnt really notice the subtle strings in a track or the backing vocalist in it or somthing. Really strange when you notice, its like a whole new track.

For the record, please dont just listen to Dubstep. Its like in education, if you only know chemistry, you can still be dumb as fuck.
