that we dont even hear? just curious, as my quality control could be better, and i was wondering what other people's opinion's are on quantity vs quality.

how many tracks do you make, for every one that sees the light of day?

I probably start about 3-4 tunes a fortnight, none of which really see the light of day, cept for mates and the gf...

The whole quality control issue for me has been tight. Don't wanna get my shit out there if I don't think its top notch. Still aiming at top notch lol...

I've been hunting through my Nuendo projects for a track I needed to re mix and master. I must come up with a new filing system actually (anyone got any tips?). It's no good calling a track something totally stupid, then making a test render of it and calling it something completely different. I hunted it down by using the search function and last modified dates. Anyway, I choose the Nuendo projects folder for the search, and inside there were over 20,000 files. This is just project files! No audio, plugin settings, or any other type of data. A lot of them are complete crap, and loads are just one or two bar loops. But still, 20,000+ projects is ridiculous. I'm happy with probably about 7-8 tracks i've done in the last 10 years ( I am a bit of a perfectionist though), and had no proper release. So, what does that mean? Maybe I should get out more... or get a proper job or something.

I reckon, name each session by the Date and Genre/word than describes the vibe. Then store them in folders marked with the Month, Then you have the date/kind of track your working on, all stored in their respective months...

Bit of a hassle, but might be worth a go if your starting heaps of shit on the regular

I start about 20 new tracks each week but i might only really finish 1-2 of them each week. Thats just inbetween my normal job and on the weekends!

Yeah it comes and goes for me. Sometimes I can bang a tune out in about an hour and it's like 95% done. Othertimes i've spent 10 hours on a single tune just trying to perfect it.

Really hate it when i want to make music but i just cant get any ideas. I try but it's a waste of time, if i'm not feeling it it's impossible to get it going.

I would venture to guess that 1/5 fall through the cracks

and tec..

I also use nuendo, I have for about 4 years now.

I started naming the project folders "03-02-08" because I often remember the date range when I started the tune

then I'll go back and name that project folder the same as the song name

hope that helps

only start a new one when the 1 before is finished.

(or it should be rly inspireless)

the hardest thing on producing tracks is finish it

i probably start about 4-5 a week but its usually about 1 track that i might finish cuz i usually just create my own patches, drum loops and FX and stuff and carry them over into other tracks and see where i can take it.

I start a track and finish it before I start the next.

It can be frustrating, but I used to get 4 or 5 on the go at once but found myself doing to little to to many of them, hence why I changed the way I work.

Get less tracks out there, but I'm putting a lot more thought into my tracks now more than ever.
Bored of the same old fucking shit.

Bollocks to it...

Obviously some people are just geniuses but the vast majority of producers I think it comes down to hard work/luck whether or not they come up with something really good.

I bet a lot of producers who release tunes make a whole heap of shit/average tunes. Think I read a quote from Intalex somewhere where he said Calibre makes about 40 tunes a week and the vast majority are rubbish but he still makes a couple of sick ones a week.

I think 40 might be pushing it a bit, that'd be just over 4 hours per track and that's not including sleep or anything.
