Anyone else really interested in this? Datura's Black Hole post reminded me to post somthing.
Read about it a few times now, basically they are trying to find out (along with other things) if there is anything else in the make up on a Atom which might explain how the universe was created, the Higgs Boson or God particle people scientists have talked about for years. Somthing with, literally, more mass than an atom itsself
Seems to get little to no mainstream media attention, due to the publics probable overreaction to the safety concerns.

Fingers crossed the world dosent implode or explode

This cracks me up though
"On March 27, 2007, there was an incident during a pressure test...................but a cryogenic magnet support broke. Fermilab director Pier Oddone stated 'In this case we are dumbfounded that we missed some very simple balance of forces. '"
No concerns for the people of France then

don't they know what atoms are made of... i thought they discovered what the smallest subatomic particles where.. like atoms, then what there made of, then what those are in fact made of.

We (not me) got that far, inside a proton is some kind of particle and something else to bind these. But they believe there is something else in there, which races around, or is in some other way, in contact with all the things. The problem is this, if it exists in the way they believe, will only last for a billion of a billion of a billionth of a second outside of the proton.
If anything, this experiment is amazing because its Europe, America had the worlds largest particle accelerator prior.

firing atoms, so that collide and smash apart, who would have though it be that fun. i think they are called quarks by the way, the particles that protons, and neutrons are made up of.

Thats the one, held together, or forced to react by Gluon.
All too confusing, i read that some how, theres a chance these two might change some how to create Squarks...which i find quite funny.

i used to pretty interested in the whole how the universe worked, what things where made of, how the laws of physics can be applied to everything, and how they explain things that are not really there.
funni because i believe strongly in god, and just as strong in science. My passion kinda faded when my dad told me black folk don't become astronauts. hold tight string theory, and the existence of parallel worlds. Hold tight mr parson as well, cos i know he is just as crazy as me.

HaHa, i try to get into it, but it all goes over my head. I'm still interested in the outcome of this for some reason, but i know i'll be as clueless as i ever was. Still without it all, we wouldnt have some very good Sci-Fi comedy jokes and situations.

pretty much summed it up for me there. I heard that theres really no way they could make a black hole with this large hadron collider, and that the media is kinda blowing things out of proportion (believe it or not!).
and grand, theres always gotta be a first black person in space - why not you?

I'd be interested to see what Jim Beats might contribute, ill see if he notices first though. Before bothering him.
Pdomino, the force needed to create the action they need i suppose.

the particles that make up protons and neutrons (protons and neutrons make atoms)are called quarks...
there are up quarks, down quarks and strange quarks... maybe some other types too i can't remember fully...
i likes physics me i do...
