Dubstep is VIBRANT

Post by eskmo / welder » Thu Mar 20, 2008 5:42 pm

I've heard some of the tastiest treats within the past year coming from this arena of sound. Sure there are elements of 'too dark', 'too dnb-y' 'too wobble' - and all things that come along with these gripes, but honestly, this is healthy for musical development.

In any type of system, you need elements that play off each other and create opposite polarities so that growth can occur. You see this in animals, plants, societies and musical development as well - from the micro to the macro. Within the tension that stems from different elements of the system, there is growth that unfolds. When things get stretched to the breaking point, amazing things can happen.

If you search it out, just like any genre of music, there are some amazing tunes and ideas happening out there. Of course, some people wont like certain directions, other people will. But that is all part of the game really. Let it happen naturally I say - and don't fight it so much or get all hysterical. Personally, I prefer songs that grow and morph with elements of feminine and masculine balanced. I enjoy elements of the 'smasher' tunes but honestly the deeper sides of the sound get me more excited.

I had seen posts and read articles around these past few months that really seemed to express people's doubts or worries. Those posts are all good, it's part of the way people might feel in a larger scheme of things - but don't worry about it all so much. It's a natural process.

for an electronic music genre, this shit is VIBRANT
Just my 2 cents, -

yeah good comment from badger - you know its sad , but true

there is still loads of amazing dubstep thats innovative and fresh
and i think a lot of the things that people wory + complain about in the dubstep scene (sure u all know what i mean) is very natural
especialy considering how big its grown in such a smalle amount of time

im sure lots of djs dont dj exactly what they listen to at home
i think that a dj may realy like certian tracks but not play them because they are woried about how it will be recived by the crowd
its 2 easey to play all the commercial well know tracks / the party tracks / all the big A sides etc sure u get me
what i would like to see is djs having the balls to play exactly what they wanna play
n not feel the need to play all the mega-wobblers + bangers etc just coz there a sure bet

i recall taking to simon scott, n him asking me what i thought about a certian track he was listening to in tribe (was a crazy super wobble trype track - u know the kind im on about) he was basicly saying he would like to play stuff a bit deeper but he thought that crowds wanted the bangers instead

burial is a good example - in all the exodus / dmz's iv been to iv not heard 1 burial track played at all - only 1 time i ever heard burial out was when komonazmuk n white boy played a track of the south london bouroughs ep @ senseless records night

sory thaty sounds like a negative post with lodsa wingin

i agree with the topic started DUBSTEP IS VIBRANT :z:

Thanks for putting into words what I felt when I 1st heard this stuff a couple of years ago and brightening up an otherwise very bleak forum (amazing what a select few can do).

I sit here now listening to a tune from an up and coming producer which eclipses most of what's released at the moment and the word vibrant sums it up completely!

This scene is limitless and should be churning ot 4ward thinking beats for a fair few years yet, juet keep waitin and diggin for those gems, I still find them in Jungle today!

excellent post eskmo

i love the span of diversity in this music! even the styles i dont like i apreciate just for being different and atracting people who dont share my exact tastes...

now if we could only get the populace to focus on praising and building that which they do enjoy instead of whining and bashing that which they dont
