likewise I could probably hook you guys up with a venue here in alaska, but I wouldn't have the money to pay airfare.

Hi Joenice!
Iam real close to getting on plane to see you in SF, i got to hear this stuff out! the only place ive heard dubstep is in my living room and SF is about as close as its gonna get/

Dubstep could work in hawaii---we have our house and DnB but the mainstream is all about Hiphop/R&B/Dancehall and all the remixes into those styles---done to death! We also have Jawaiian music--its hawaiian music with Jamacian "style" production --its so slick and cheesy but the radio plays it nonstop---
We like our weed! Reggae bands that come through town do real well/ You could promote Dubstep emphasizing the DUB-rooty-jamacian side of it (put a rainbow colored leaf on the flyer--lol--joking--not////

were you doing the nite at cafe sistina?
no one is playing dubstep out that i know, if i mention it people say, oh, yea, grime, lady soverign, right? everyone seems to know her, and that video--
i think its about pushing people onto it---u know put it into a dnb set see the reaction---the dnb crowd here is open to anything alternative to the mainstream/ i would like to play it out between sets at some of the local dub reggae gigs---those gigs are full on spliffn/skankn parties, the smoke gets so thick in there! lol! people would dig it---goes with the vibe/

ALOHA TO ALL!
I was BORN AND GROWN THERE...I MISS IT!
DUBSTEP IS GOING TO TAKE A WHILE THERE...ROOTS MUSIC IS THE CENTER OF THE STAGE STILL.
LIKE OPUU SAID...WE ARE WEEEED SMOKAS.
SLOW AND LOW!!
DUBSTEP IS TOO TAPT!
TOO HEAVY YET.
The thing that really sucks is the epidemic of crystal meth users there(BATU is what they call it) .
It really is a sad REALITY...but if you took DUBSTEP there...you might see the vampires at night tripping and you might get jacked.
don't let a POSTCARD FOOL YOU ABOUT THE STATE!
yeah we got our Section 8's too.
big up KAM 4 HOUSING.
you might have a chance on MAUI for DUBSTEP...just because most of the people there are from CALI and more fine tuned for "MAINLAND" mentality...don't bother trying to play the other islands...they'll poi pound your PLATES.
COUNTRY FOLKS WON'T ACCEPT IT!
Just a little bit of knowledge of where i'm from...BIG UP THE DUBSTEPPERS IN THE 808 TRYING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN...GOOD LUCK!
LARGE UP MY ROOTS FAMILY....OOKLAH THE MOC...FATHER PSALMS STUDIO...JAH GUMBY..BARRUCUS..KILLA P...RAS BIRD...KALI...MR.83...HI-STATE FAMS ALL MASSIVE AND CREW REPPIN HAARD FOR OUR AINA..FORWARD.
BIG UP THE DUBSTEP SCENE MAKING IT OUTERNATIONALLY.
MALAMA PONO(RESPECT)!
PURE BOOM HI-FI SOUNDSYSTEM

big Up all Hawaii Massive

I was there a couple years back and tried to play dubstep at this place called INDIGO and people were a bit confused to say the least. I think the smokin heads were feelin it but were mostly hangin around. though I think with more of the dancefloor influence now it could go off. Plus mix it up with reggae and its on!

I'd be glad to come out and try it out again! 8)

respects!

Oahu's Dubstep Scene....

Post by micjamking » Thu Aug 07, 2008 2:39 am

Hawaii's been pretty slow about it even tho the Reggae/Dub scene is huge, but it's definitely coming along. I've been playin Dubstep on Oahu for the last year comin from DnB and it has definitely been a difficult transition for some, but the last three months has shown massive improvement. We actually have a couple of monthly's running now, with Bar35 runnin D&B in the lounge and Dubstep on the patio bar for the last three months. There's also been a few beach parties the last three months with Dubstep blowin tha spot. I'm actually playin Indigo's next weekend with MC Enemy and Lotus Soundbar on Aug 29th with DJ Thread. Lotus is also lookin @ runnin DnB/Dub monthly's here soon. Lookin forward to gettin an All Dubstep Monthly with Moody G of TheSubdivision and a few other cats here soon. Most Definitely will keep you cats posted. In tha meantime, peep how we do it island style....Light It Up...peep tha space for tracklist. holla...

dubstep does work in hawaii. played @ a festival on maui last february and folks was like WHAT?!?

i want to hear some hawaiian producers who infuse indigenous instruments/structures/vibes with the megaton bass. how does dubstep's urban-decay roots apply to hawaii's exploited resources and colonized social environment? there is some intense fucking anger on those islands...
