Hip Hop opened the door for all kinds of good music in my experiences.
So glad I grew up with it!

its understandable, the excessive ego, gaudy glam, and ghetto mentalities; being an ugly side to hip hop that dominates the public perception.

Now Hieroglyphics and other backpacker style hip hop is another thing.

for me hieroglyphics is really about certain albums and not so much a whole crew, which i think didn't really add up to very much beyond the crazy hype that they had back then. they did put oakland hip hop on the map though. i never thought del was that special, and i think hiero as a crew had so much potential, when you see all of the talent that was on that roster back in the days.

casual "fear itself LP" was so slept on....even slept on to this day. the beats and ideas on that were way ahead of their time.

souls of mischief "93 to infinity LP"....legendary.

domino- as a producer alone was so slept on it's criminal. he should be put up there with everyone else from that era.

Hiphop is amazing.. I DO prefer the old stuff to anything else. Never been a fan of 'gangster' rap more of a fan of cleverly written and executed stories and bars...

Even if you look at the 'top players' first albums, they're amazing.... Busta, Luda, Nas even facking Eminem.. Can't deny they were amazing at one point.

This. For example, Roots of Evil - Kool G. Rap. More recently The Hunt for The Gingerbread Man - MF Grimm. These come to mind.

Hip-hop is such a broad and diverse genre, there is bound to be something there for everyone, people who say they don't like hip-hop are lying, what they mean to say is that there steriotyping pigeon holeing narrow mind has not expanded and explored this particular musical genre and has, insted, disregarded it due to the false impression that they have created from the small snippets they have heard and from the negative imagery that has been pushed upon the genre by like minded music biggots.
