Hip Hop/Dubstep

Post by mae » Thu May 15, 2008 2:18 pm

ive heard quite a bit of dubstep with hip hop influences but not much hip hop with dubstep influence (despite alot of talk about it) so i had a quick go.

yeah... so im not the next Dr Dre or Benga but i think theres some potential with the style. I would love to hear one of the more skilled producers in here have a real go at this acapella or similar ones.

anyway here it is http://www.zshare.net/audio/1206614412dbea76/ i used a combinator patch that someone uploaded here (i forget who it was but thanks)

.... and yes it is a wobble..... but dont hold that against me, this was just a bit of a test

Ain't it what we refer to as Grime?

no. i was thinking more of dubstep tunes that just use some small samples from hip hop records or have a boom bap style. to me grime is its own entity, but i guess that opinion is subjective.

90 bpms with LFO basslines??

that wouldn't be hiphop

it would be sped up dubstep

see...

DS is cool because we don't have to follow any traditional "rules" like you do in hiphop

I am so glad I no longer have to deal with egocentric emcees with little to no talent and a penchant for violence

I would say Flying Lotus takes a fair bit of influence from dubstep, in his more recent stuff at least, kind of got that hyperdub style wooziness to it, (probably hence the hyperdub release)

Oddly, i got into producing through wanting to make stuff at 140, but keep ending up making hip hop at 90 bpm. Good fun though.

just a hip hop beat i made wich when i made it was actually dnb influenced but its got a dubstep vibe also actually.

its deep tune with some string action, soem funky drummer gwan and bit of a subtle lfo bassline.

widdler? only listened to the first half but what exactly are you doing to manipulate the track besides slowing it down. sounds like the reverb on the snare possibly and maybe filling in some pots in the drum pattern. that is the original bassline though isnt it?

just curious. i do things like that for myself when im bored inside traktor but i know very little about the program and dont have decks of a controller hooked up. just use my laptop mouse hah

cool kids are great for that because some of those tracks are very minimal. i had black mags and a deadmau5 track going one day that sounded really good
