tricky choice:
one was perhaps the most exciting musical form to come out of the UK, ever...but has now transformed into something monstrous and unlistenable
the other is a middle class attempt at creating something like jungle but for the most part just sounds like wak early '90s ambient whiteman dub and bores me stupid
decisions, decisions

Dubstep bores the fuck outta me. I'll openly admit i dont listen or follow the scene in any way. It's getting worse than DNB and finding a good Dubstep tune for me personally like..... well you get my drift.
Honestly though i go in the Dubs room and listen about and hear the shittest generic wobble tune and about 100 peeps going yeah man that shits deep! It's a joke, not saying my tracks are amazing becasue they are not. Evevn the dark heads that emphasise that they make Darkcore etc are just making Dark wobble. Nothing changes, wobble, wobble, wobble. Cant you peeps have the imagination to look past a LFO to Filter Cut Off.

absolutely, its all about dylan, limewax, noisia, spl, raiden, catacomb, loxy+ink to name but a few, i seriously cant listen to the accelerated culture side of things any more, and havent for quite some time. so many different styles on the dark side of dnb, so much variation, some of it completely insane but totally listenablesomejerk wrote:yall are listening to the wrong DNB and dubstep

wow! so... just surprised to hear posts hating on dubstep...weird...heh it's just opinions tho.
my opinion is i'm bored with dnb but still like most of it, i actualy liked it more when i was younger and danced more. but i love the dark experimental stuff that's why im so into breakcore and idm last few years...
i'm just in love with dubstep, for the last 4 years it touches on so many different styles and genres. theres so much creativity and vibe that's unique to so many individuals...just my 2cents

I agree. Used to love d'n'b, but it all went wrong around 2001 for me, Think it was the marky stuff that destroyed the scene for me... I can't stand clownstep, bores me to tears. The same bass being used by all the main producersAporia1 wrote:wow! so... just surprised to hear posts hating on dubstep...weird...heh it's just opinions tho.

I don't know much about dubstep. Some is alright, but I hear a lot of shite aswell... Suppose its the same with any genre.

I only like about 20% of new dubstep that comes out. But I like that 20% quite a lot, so its enough to make me follow the scene.
To the OP.... Dubstep or DNB? Its only a choice of BPM, just do what sounds good. If you set out specifically to make a certain genre, you end up with formula based music. Before I got into dubstep I really tried to be a "liquid drum n bass" producer... but all my tunes just sounded like LTJ Bukem ripoffs!

Think you need to find yourself a new forum then hahahaDocwra wrote:Dubstep bores the fuck outta me. I'll openly admit i dont listen or follow the scene in any way...

docwra, if not following the scene means never having been to a proper dubstep night then youre missing the point of it. its meant to be heard loud as fuck and felt through your body, thats when it transforms from mediocre to mind blowing. then once youve been to enough nights you can sort of translate tunes you hear at home and imagine how they would sound live.
i thought dubstep was pretty boring too until i got myself down to TTC.

Make what you like to hear. It doesn't even have to be classified into a particular genre. Regarding drum and bass and dubstep getting boring...everything gets commercialized eventually. Commercialization nearly destroyed jungle in the mid 90s and producers were moving away from the original sound into more tech sounds (a lot of what you hear today). I can't stand listening to most of what's getting put out today. It all sounds too heavy metal-ish. Hell, I don't like much after 97. The early eras of subgenres forming are always the most interesting though and I do have a thing for early techstep and neurofunk, but heart was always with the original jungle sound.
There are labels and producers out there that keep to their roots. Know them, and know they continue to push the same sounds. Plenty of indie labels still repping the original ragga jungle sound too...you just need to know them. A lot of the dnb producers people named in this thread are the same ones that "ruined" the sound I like, but music evolves and old becomes new again. That's what I like about dubstep...there are tons of tunes that just recycle jungle classics and bring them to light again.
