New Tune - Shonky - Nihil

Post by shonky » Sat Jun 17, 2006 6:29 pm

New tune called Nihil up on www.soundclick.com/shonky. Feedback appreciated.

Posted this up on Production too, as I've gone a bit catchment area crazy.

Really should get some daylight at some point, but it's not good for creating I find (maybe it's just me...)

love that new tune mate. Also liked the pic of the copper in front of thr poor old pier. :D
Its strange that some people get loads of feed back and other people get hardly any. Odd. Do you think lack of feedback= people don't like the tunes? :?:

Might be that I'm not from Sarf Lahndan (although with the ever-reaching arms of the metropolis, Brighton's bound to be swallowed up soonish (getting that way now)).

It's hard to say, sure if people didn't like it they'd say, maybe people are more into biggin up the established stars than listening to new stuff. Most music posts seem to sink without trace unless they're known, so it's hard to say - better to post in production (although that's not much better a lot of the time).

Might be that they don't fit with what ever the perception of the sound is at that time, might be that people listen and can't be bothered to post feedback, or may be that they don't like them. I generally try to avoid negative feedback on the whole

I think that even if you particularly dislike a track, it doesn't necessarily mean that that person might not end up doing something worthwhile later (i think as producers we all have earlier efforts which were not particularly good). If there's parts of a track that I think are quite good, but something else jars, then I'll point both out, but if there's nothing I like then I'd rather say nowt.

It's really off-putting to new producers to just be told their tunes rubbish, when they might well have a great love for the music, that will some day come good for them. I had feedback years ago which was of the "that's shit" variety, and luckily I was a strong enough person to carry on with it, but I don't really want to put people off if they're into what they're doing.

Caterpillars into butterlies innit

sounding nice man.
especially like that high pitch steel drum (?) melody that comes in half way through for a bit. could do with some more of that i reckon.

I think with the feedback thing, personally, it's good to tell someone you think their tune's crap (if it is of course), as long as you give some good constructive reasons why. No one can improve if they don't know whats wrong in the first place innit?

A lot of this is pretty subjective though. Some big, released tunes I hear just leave me cold, but others seem ramped over them, so you have to remember that although you may not like it, that might be that person's vision of what they wanted to do.

Say for instance someone heard Burial, they could pick out that the beats aren't quite in time, the melodies are a bit obscured and the structure's seem a bit loose, and not forgetting "it's a bit bloody melancholic" - but those are all the things I like about it. Now if the person with the first opinion heard those tunes and passed on them rather than Kode 9, we wouldn't have that music now.

Some things are just no good I agree though, but I do feel it's a bit like telling someone they've got an ugly baby - not something you can say easily without offense.
