‘MINOR NINE’: THE DUBSTEP MIXES…

ARTISTS: HEADHUNTER | KRYPTIC MINDS & LEON SWITCH
FORMAT: 12” VINYL
CATALOGUE NUMBER: DCOM027140
RELEASE DATE: 29/09/08

“A triumph. Trust Defcom to show the rest how it’s done…”
- Knowledge magazine

‘Massive release. I’ve been battering these tunes every set…’
- Youngsta (Tempa, Rinse FM)

One of the most respected partnerships in drum & bass returns…to flip the script yet again! Kryptic Minds and Leon Switch are back with another genre-busting release on their truly infamous imprint – along with one of dubstep’s leading lights: Bristol’s dark magician Headhunter (Tempa)…

In a mouthwatering taste of their forthcoming new album – comprised purely of dubstep/dub/140bpm wizardry – Kryptic Minds and Leon Switch re-visit, melt down and reconstruct ‘Minor Nine’, the hypnotic opening track from the duo’s critically-acclaimed 2007 album ‘Lost All Faith’.

X. Minor Nine (Headhunter mix) sees the Tempa don turn this original d&b masterpiece entirely on its head, as a warping, sizzling, cavernous midrange cajoles the signature ‘Minor Nine’ bass thumps into a bouncing, infectious piece of industrial funk. Delicate pads, electro glitches and undulating stings float breathlessly above the mesmerising call-and-answer lick that surges beneath. Simply unstoppable.

Y. Minor Nine (Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch mix) is the work of two artists enjoying the most creative period in their career to date. Bringing all the original elements to the fore, this 140bpm translation finds a Defcom classic in the guise it seems to have always been destined for. A delicate veil of eastern atmospherics, distant sonar glitches and fitful shards of industrial menace combine to etch an engulfing drama of solitude and menace – a slowly rising tide of analogue filtered bass...

This spellbinding release marks the start of a new Defcom era. It is not to be missed.

Love that Kryptic Minds remix, the samples and drums etc that they use in their DnB sound equally as good if not better at 140. Their style (for me anyway) has always been a lot about space and atmosphere and I think this tempo gives them a lot more freedom to do that. Big up Defcom

Minor Nine was probably my favourite drum & bass tune for 2007.

Most definitely! The whole 'Lost All Faith' album came along and gave alot of people something to think about... its a defining moment that will become my 'Timeless' for this era of drum and bass.

As TeeBee so finely put it "reminds you fell in love with this music", add to that the distinct and acute style of Dubstep pioneers like Headhunter and alot more I'm sure and we've got a defining moment in dubstep. With more artists like 2562, Martyn, TRG and Tes La Rok making seriously deep music I'm happy to say that 140bpm has a lot to show drum'n'bass producers about how to slow down and make use of space in there tracks. Less is more as some say... anyway.

Seriously into this, Headhunter killed it!

Big Defcom and all who sail in her, lol.
