an american who is a fan of grime/ or a grime mc

Post by dubzach » Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:26 am

I need to know ur opinions out there for americans into grime music. Is it wrong for us to be large fans of grime or to have a desire to rap on grime type tracks??

Hah.. Music is for everyone, listen to whatever you like.

As for making Grime, it's all about the British accent for me..

nah bruv, Im really am a huge fan since I heard some material from Dizzy.. Boys got flow ya know.. also, big ups to skibadee for influencing me to spit to jungle. I have been doing that for a bit and rocked gangsta rap crowds amazingly and developed a big rep here in my end of the pond.

I think you can do it, and no one should tell you that you should not try to be a grime mc because you're American.

However, and this might just be my opinion, but I don't like when Americans use phrases like "man dem" and "innit". That kinda makes it seem like you're biting British mc's styles. But do what you want, makes no difference to me.

man just fuckin do what ya like!

i dunno if you're going to put on a fake UK accent and just completely rip off grime? cuz that wouldnt impress me much...

but if you're staying true to your style and rap about shit thats going on around you but just switch up your flow to spit over grimey beats I think it could be mad fresh.. do it mate!

i'm from australia and my mate is an mc and he's spits rhymes in an ozzie accent over dubstep and grime... i mean, uk peeps might have a whinge but thats nothing new

thats what Im talkin about yo, its like y'all want yer scene's to expand, then when other folks are reppin it its like were bandwagon jumpers or swaggin ur styles.. Alot of uk grime has borrowed alot of the ideas on beats and rhymes from alot of the southern us rap stuff.

No need to apologize, man. :D Like I said, do what you do. I'd like to see some American grime mc's get recognized, it's just that -on a personal note- I would be put off if I heard one that I felt was copying too closely the terminology and colloquialisms of British mc's.

As you can tell, I'm not from Cali- didn't realize people there spoke like that. 8)

MC over Grime beats in your own accent

That's all we're saying..

Otherwise you'll be known as the American who pretends to be from London.

Im a bit sleepy but on a half joking tip but um... anyway, yeah i was serious about the mcing and us in the states being fans of grime. I dont see why folks out there dont thinks ok if we become fans to or wanna spit. I heard some stuff not too long ago about us grime and thought it was good but not "grimey" enough. I mean there are alot of rappers in the states who can let it all out when they rap. I ddint here that on the us grime mixtape. All Im sayin, is im gonna let it all out and get some folks together and show em how we do it in the states. This maybe a bigger challenge for me then it was for the jungle mcing here in the states, and a bit diff from the hip hop, but i got loads to say and if all gonna swag me for doin it in the states whats the use?? I mean think about it: We have loads of heads in the states pushin the dubstep, the jungle, etc... but what why not grime?

And funnily enough I've heard very little from those people that's interesting at all.

Make of that what you wish.
