South Birmingham Community Radio Sat 8-10

Post by s.i.e » Mon Aug 18, 2008 12:16 am

South Birmingham Community Radio 87.7 fm or online @ http://southbirminghamcommunityradio.co ... &Itemid=49

Saturdays 8-10 pm,
Myself and Relatively Unknown host a Dubstep show playing the freshest and biggest tracks in and around the scene and promoting local artists from the midlands area. If you are from the midlands and would like to showcase your music on our show then get in touch.
In fact anyone interested in getting airplay on legitimate legal radio then drop us a line, our ears are always open.

On last weeks show we showcased a midlands hip hop mc - cut so deep - who dropped by the studio to promote his new album "Hustle & Die" and spit a little freestyle over a couple of dubz produced by us.

We had tremendous feedback from the listeners and thought this would be something we would try and do every week. Any up and coming artists from any genre in the Midlands area are more than welcome to stop by the studio for a chat.

For more information PM me and i'll give you my mobile number to arrange further.

Peace.

It must be brilliant to produce/present a radio show, and I've been considering submitting a program proposal to Reverb Radio in Brighton - more sound art & fugged-up humorous sonic terrorism rather than a traditional music show... but in all honesty, how many people listen to these 'community stations'? Does anyone have any figures? In my experience people usually stick with the BBCs (Radio 1 can be vaguely listenable about one night a week, and Radio 3 has some amazing experimental stuff most nights) or commercial radio (God help us: Coldplay interspersed with relentlessly mindless jabber, jauntily incompetent DJs and adverts for motor insurance - just shoot me now) or, of course, the pirates. I can't remember ever having witnessed anyone listening to a community radio station, not even online. And yet I see plenty of people who post here seem to have a show on Newton-le-Willows Airwaves, or Cotswolds Together, or some equally obscure-sounding station. Maybe I should give it a go. Recommendations..?

most community stations have a weak signal transmitting so they dont reach as far as the mainstream stations who pay alot more money to transmit nationally and internationally. It is more of a stepping stone to the mainstream i suppose but great for local peeps to tune into. At the moment the station plays everything from D'n'B thru to Dubstep, Grime and 4x4 and even has Dj's from Kerrang doing guest shows so with a bit of luck it may grow into somethin beyond expectations.
