Post DMZ July 8th Pictures/Video/Comments

Post by drbluebeat » Sun Jul 09, 2006 8:40 am

everyone must be alseep for me to be first to making this post - I got home at 6.40am just as the kids were waking up so I'll be the staying awake crew now.

I was, er, a little late getting back from the wedding - strolled through the doors into DMZ just before 4am(!) in time for Skream/Hatcha and Distance/Vexd but way way late for the link-up! Whoever gave me that spliff when I got in - it was so strong it felt like I was eating it, thanks for that!

Video of the 5.30am crew (Boomnoise you are in frame but I only know that cos I took it!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVTPDZ_aHE4

one of those "pointless unless you were there" videos - but I was hoping to capture more of the tune so someone would ID it.

Last two hours were serious skanking, Skream and that Warrior Queen track that got rewound twice was a highlight as was the whole of the Distance/Vex'd set - so what did I miss?

Just got back to Sheffield.

Still haven't slept, just had a shower and feeling pretty fucking good.

Was a magnificent night and very different to the last DMZ. Less rammed but still full, no bouncer hassle AT ALL and no problems with burning (someone's been reading the forum), musically less of an homage to Loefah / DMZ and more of a showcase for the other DJs, and there was a little less of the rewinds and a lot more extremely tasty extended mixing in all sets...

... but most important of all the crowd was, again, just A1, top notch sweetness, no attitude all night - this is precious - and those pix are good but they don't show just how beautiful the people were.

Most enjoyable set for me was Skream / Hatcha, but Youngsta / N-Type were unbelievably good, Yunx doing very deep meditational gear and N-Type blasting the reggae vibes... Loefah / Mala fantastic, had the best / deepest tunes, but sometimes dipped below perfection. Benga vs Chef was just a revelation, they absolutely tore it up, absolutely rocked the crowd, the energy off that set was like going to see Iggy, extraordinary.

Distance vs vex'd took it down nicely, great hearing buck and bury...

Great seeing Boom, Deapoh, Dr Bluebeat, Lucky Strike, and the French contingent, wicked.

Pix later...

Last night was good but I must admit I was a bit disappointed. It seemed to be that the same tracks were getting played 2, 3, 4 times throughout the night. Don't get me wrong, they're good tunes but I started getting a little bored. I think part of the problem is that Mala, Loefah, Youngsta and Chef all draw their tracks from the same small pool of producers (ie. Skream, Mala, Coki and Loefah). It would have been nice to hear a bit more of the diversity of the scene - some more Dub Police or Hot Flush artists' tracks. I thought it was a shame. Mud and Ruffage are sick tunes but I don't need to hear them both 5 times in 5 hours, you know what I mean? I bailed out at 3 so i dunno if Skream and Hatcha mixed it up a bit more. Maybe I'm just all a little dubstepped out right now, I've been to more dubstep nights in the last 2 months than ever before. Does anyone else know what I mean about the repetition tho?

That's fair comment. It's a fact that som tunes got played a lot. But... you should've stayed for Skream / Hatcha's set! :D That was all different tunes. Also, Youngsta's set was AFAICT all exclusive dubs. But I take your point.

Nice meeting you too Grievous Angel.

Bluebeat, were you wearing a white t-shirt? I'm not sure if it was you I saw or a look-a-like.

I believe I managed to dodge all the cameras yet again. Won't see me in any pics :(

Left at 4:45 cos my mate was tired and I wanted to cotch just round the corner at his yard. I feel kinda murcolated from DMZ. Was a good night. Personally Digital Mystikz and Loefahs set was next level.

Ohhhh and Bengas new beats omg! Skreams tunes are on new levels. Pure raw tunage.

Quality night once again...I got in about 12:30 and thought there might be problems cos of capacity but walked right in - still very busy inside but not quite as ultra-rammed like last time, and security were 10 times better, big ups to DMZ/Mass for that.

I've since digi mystikz about three times in the last month or so, so no surprises dubplate wise but still a deep, spiritual set which I really enjoyed.

Yunx and N Type were special, total focus. Highlight was seeing/hearing the mighty Task in the flesh. Too cold!!!!!!

I didn't think there were too many repeat tunes, and end of the day DJ-producers are going to represent their taste and their own productions not showcase music they aren't necessarily in to just for the sake of it.

She was from mixmag apparently.

Don't know where to start really, fucking wicked night from front to back. Atmosphere was just as good as last time, swear it was even rowdier at some points- multiple audience performed rewinds lol Rewinds wise I thought there might have been too many but most of them I had to agree with. Drank far far too many bottles of 3.50 stella, gutted.

Benga/Chef- pure murder on both sides, ''Kalawanji'' was my tune of the night as soon as Chef played it. And Chef mixing between Tapped (i think) and Loefah System (I think) was a highlight for me. Some of those Benga tunes too- :o

N-Type/Yungsta- disgusting again, too many fucking dirty tunes being dropped that I had no idea about. Mixing was smooov too.

Mala/Loefah- Once again my favourite set, probably because I was at the front the whole time screaming like a spak with my beard in the air. To hear Sizzla ''One of those days'' and then the Coki version put me on a high and it didn't really stop for the rest of the set. Suffice to say I can't actually remember any of the tunes except my beshtest tune in the whole world I rmx. There was one tune in particular that I remember the whole front row bouncing like tits too... will ask jubscarz

Skream/Hatcha- I was losing my brain a bit at this point but another ridiculous set. So many rewinds but some of the tunes needed rewinding in my face for three consecutive life sentences- Mi Love It, is that what its called? ''nothing you can say can make me feel this way...'' etc. and then a big fat poo of a bassline (hold tight mass toilet cleaners- talking of which I only just noticed the anal bead machine in the bogs, next time I'll bring some extra money and wet wipes standard). I pulled my calf muscle to Lightning and then Kalawanji came on afterwards so I had to limp around to it... Skream's a genius, so many tunes that I was asking jubs about turned out to be skream... Oh and Candy Floss RMX is my beshtest tune in the world v.2.

Distance/Vex'd- To be fair I spent half this set forgetting why I was in london but standing next to the speakers at the back when ''Cyclops'' was on woke me up a bit. Fucking dirty set, nice to hear a bit of grime before the granny punching basslines kicked in. Only shame was it being so late and me being so drunk.

I can't wait two months, do another one tomorrow please. Big up jubscarz, bracky and mart (loefah WILL be my chauffeur lol), jon, boomnoise, kion, n-type and loefah/dmz crew esp. mala

I'll stop gushing now and stick the tampon in.

Sorry i didn't speak to anyone, felt really ill from the all day drinking, also didn't mix well with my choice of stimulants . Music was really good though. Crowd was well chilled 8) . My mate got some flicks so will post them at some point. Think i saw Forensix a couple of times but i was to wasted to speak  . All in all though ,very good. Next time ill save the drinking until later. :Y: Loads of tracks i really liked but ill shy away from trying to recreate them in type. Kind of went like this EREEEBREEBOOMS. lol

What was that other reggae tune mala/loe kicked off with, think it was before the sizzla tune and it kept switching between slow and fast- might even have been two tunes actually
