Who needs a zoot to make tunes?

Post by serox » Thu Aug 28, 2008 10:03 am

Recently I have been finding it hard to make tunes without a zoot on the go:( Anyone else have this problem?

I hardly smoke weed but really enjoy it when playing with the buttons.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Hardly touch the stuff and when I do it seems to lead to very atmospheric stuff what I open the next day and find its just 9 minutes of pads with rawly reverbed drums..

I am a few beers person, personally.

Any intoxicants fuck my head up and I end up staring blankly at the screen doing nothing for two hours..... :(

Na man, I'd much rather produce tunes sober, then enjoy a bifta or beer with some pals out on the town. :)

Based on the experiences of my drug taking youth, I firmly believe that music that sounds 'phat' sober will sound ' f***ing PHAAAAAT!' when your mushed! 8)

I am not saying my music sounds better when stoned. Its more the fact I cannot enjoy trying to make tunes unless I have a zoot on the go!

It doesnt help that I work on computers all day so really cannot enjoy sitting down at home at all.

This is quite a new problem for me and I am no addicted to drugs btw.

Thats quite deep...

Making tunes is one of the only things I DO enjoy, thats why I do it, if I had to smoke a zoot to feel in the mood to make tunes I wouldn't.

Its killing me lol. I really am running home so that I can make some beats but just find it really hard to get into it at the moment.

interesting thread - i smoked every day for ten years and have only just knocked it on the head. needing a joint to make music is all in your mind, best avoided IMO

It is all in my head. It must have something to do with the fact I hate my job quite a lot right now (working with computers)

I've been a pretty avid weed enthusiast for a couple years now, and I am shocked to say I have never heard the word "zoot" in this context before. I assume it's a Britishism? but even when I lived in England I never heard it. It's always good to pick up some new lingo. (On that note, if you guys roll paper filters for your joints, the paper you rip off to make the filter is called "splut" where I'm from.)
Anyway...
I get high most of the time when I'm working on music because I've found that it actually helps the creative process. It's easier for me to know whether a beat is working or I'm not feeling it or what. Gets the ideas flowing a lot quicker.
However, on the other end, I also think it slows down the production aspect a lot. Like it's really good for coming up with melodies but I can't really take the time to do the careful work of programming automations, tweaking shit, etc. So usually I like to smoke up to write, and then actually put a song together when I'm sober.
Word.
