I think my ratio is about 1 out of 3

if its not hype for me in the first 30 / 45 minutes, I'll drop it

I have been trying to make beats for about 5 months and have not finished anything.

I will try finish what I am working on at moment for the tune battle.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

just don't stop!

I have a really good friend that has bought tens of thousands of dollars in equip,

he has a virus TI, samplers, 1200's, a pioneer dmj800, a G5, etc...

in the 10 years we have known each other, he has never played a gig djing and has yet to finish a tune

his problem is that he is a total perfectionist.

he wants his tunes to sound BETTER than anything in his massive stacks of vinyl

I tell him to keep plugging, he'll be there one day

I DJ every week nearly so only have a couple of hours to try and learn things when I get home from work:/

I maybe get about 8 hours a week to sit down on the computer so its taking me ages to pick things up.

I wont be quitting tho thats for sure!

2 from 3
used to be way less. like 1 in 6 but since i have learned more about production i can get stuff to sound the way i want a bit easier/faster.

Ummm

6 months ago. 1 : 5

now

1 : 1

If I don't like the tune I won't finish it, if I am stuck for ideas, I'll let it sit for a few days and I will take a break from making tunes, in general.

i wish i could say my ratio was better.. but lately i get to thinking about a tune, come up with a great concept, start picking samples and whatnot then i get bored with the mechanics of everything..

been making computer music so long it seems like i'm not really doing anything new.. :\

I think quality over quantity is one of the keys to great tuneage

1:5. But this is where I gotta say something like I'm loving the journey so much that I don't feel like I want it to end just yet anyway. 8)

i have the problem of getting halfway done with a really rough version of a track (basic beat, one melody and bass), then i try to make a 2nd verse or bridge or break or whatever, but i end up thinking the thing i came up with for the changeup is good enough to be its own track, so i start it as a seperate project. repeat, repeat. never finish anything.

Finished is more a state of mind than actual fact.

i finish less than 3% of alot of tracks...

but then usually make frankenstein tunes of the 'best' bits from each. makes the quality control much higher just gets a bit frustrating sometimes.
