yea the one mouse button is at the top of the list accually....20tree wrote:why ?djake wrote:i hate mac's, always will
cause they run better with alot of software ?
and if you install windows you can do the same as you did before ?
or do you have the strong argument my old classmates use to have about only having 1 mouse button ?

You cant build your own mac. I like to have freedom to build a pc myself, costomize it, have the choice of a million different companys to choose from for parts.
plus ive used PC's since, well forever. no point in making the change (plus i couldnt afford a mac)

...not another fanboy-flamewar.
the only differnce left between actual mac´s and a win-pc ist the OS, the efi, the design and, of course, the price.
the hardware inside is the same.
you can produce music in a stable way on both.
the apple doesnt make the tunes better.
a clean win xp spII can easily be as stable as a tiger.

Just throwing this out there; Apple hasn't sold a one button mouse in ages. Also, if you compare a comparable Dell & Mac, the Mac will generally beat out the Dell buy a sizable amount.....With the Mac you get crazy good integration, and an awesome DAW that was built by the same company that built the hardware which = superb performance.
All that said, I use both Windows & OS X. I just prefer OS X. I just wanted to provide some facts that were relevant to the discussion. No need to have Mac VS PC wars as they are rarely ever all that productive.

ah yes, the good old fanboy flamewars!
ok, here are my experiences, hope this helps a bit!
i was a PC user from the late 80s onwards (DOS 3.3 to be specific). i had always been happy to edit my config.sys file, pull it apart, install new memory or a CDROM drive etc etc.
Around 2003 I was producing on Reason 3. It was stable, rarely maxed out, I got some good results on it.
Around 2006 I switched to Logic 5.5 on a Sony Vaio laptop with XP. It was good, sometimes maxed out but not too badly. It sometimes crashed or was a bit buggy, but again nothing I wasn't used to from the last decade of windows use. I had a Novation X-Station keyboard and soundcard which I couldn't install properly. I tried it a few times and never managed to get it going properly.
This year I got a Macbook (the cheapest one) and Logic 8. (I use the same mouse as I did on the PC
). My X-Station worked immediately. I have noticed a distinct reduction in the amount of crashes - in fact, I don't think it has crashed once all year. I leave it on overnight and only reboot maybe once a week, if that. I had never noticed before that I particularly spent much time in Windows tweaking settings, editing stuff to make things work, but since getting the Macbook I've noticed that I spend much less time doing that now, if any. One thing in particular is that people say they don't want to spend extra money on a Mac because they can build a PC; configure windows to do what they want, etc etc. I would put myself in the bracket of having the ability to do stuff like that - but now, as someone who produces music full-time, I realise that I don't actually want to spend the time doing it. I didn't really know there was an option to avoid it, but i'm quite impressed that there is and I prefer it.
i'm not one of these people who says they'll never go back to PCs, but when you can get a macbook and logic 8 for a total of £817, which i think is broadly comparable to a PC laptop with Cubase, i think the only thing that would push me back to PCs would be if I had no other financial alternative.
So yeah, I wouldn't say that this Mac is worlds better than the PC I was on before, but I prefer it in lots of subtle, small ways - enough to keep me on Macs for the next few years I think, anyway.
And Logic 8 is absolutely the dogs bollocks

how can anyone use windows who isnt either A> blind, or at least B> totally lacking in any aesthetic taste? microsoft have the ugliest graphic design of almost any company in the world. there's no way i'm staring at that shit for hours on end: for starters, that fucking blue they use is just offensive 2 the eye.
otherwise i'm sure PCs are fine...and probably go quite well with your pee-stained nylon bell-bottoms and fluro-orange socks

Nothing wrong with preferring windows to osx.
Just don't publicly put something down based on ignorance.
Most people grew up using windows, and remember mac's from their 2nd grade classroom. Mac's are for a diffrent type of user. There are not as many programs for osx, but the ones that exist are usually of a much higher quality than alot of programs for windows.
I think osx is fore a more technical minded crowd, where as windows is kinda just the standard and might always be?
Usually the people who hate mac's are the people who've never really owned one. Trying one at best buy != really getting to feel it out.

I don't really care what computers people use, but having spent years selling Mac's I don't think that osx is for 'technical minded' people - quite the contrary really.tak wrote: I think osx is fore a more technical minded crowd, where as windows is kinda just the standard and might always be?
I think the bigger issue should be software these days - are you a logic fan or are you into other sequencers? Does iTunes give you the shits? Are you gonna be changing it over every year or holding onto it for a long time?
Macs have come a long way, but take everything about them not crashing/being more stable with X software or being more finely tuned with a grain of salt 'cause there are so many things that can go wrong with any device that you may just get frustrated or let down if you blow bare money on it.
