Live Dubstep Band-Musicians Needed!!!

Post by ericssoftbrain » Mon Oct 20, 2008 12:04 pm

Easy people,
Im a saxophonist/trumpeter currently working with a session band for an indie reggae record label by the name of Reality Shock Records based in Reading. Recently, however, i've been getting well into my dubstep, and really want to form a live dubstep band.

Basically, i'm looking for any musicians, dj's, vocalists or producers that might want to get involved. I myself would be playing some pretty rarely seen equipment that ive aquired over the past few years. The first piece is made by AKAI its called the EWI4000s (electronic wind instrument) http://www.akaipro.com/ewi4000s. Its basically a midi controller saxophone with an inbuilt synth. The inbuilt synth is pretty wimpy though and what triggered me to get a project like this going was when i recently downloaded reason 4 and realised i could hook the ewi up to the thor synthesizer in reason and its just opened up a whole new world to me musically. Ive also recently bought a whole array of loop pedals and effects stations and after a few months of practice ive managed to turn the previously wimpy, more jazz orientated instrument into a dark, dirty, dubsteppy beast. Second thing ive got is a mute for my trumpet with a pick up mic integrated, so that u can run it thru all the same effects pedals etc, u can an electric guitar. Its an amazing bit of kit, dreamt up and cobbled together first by Miles Davis in his electric period, when he ran his trumpet thru a wah wah pedal and now made professionally by Yamaha.

Right now ive gotten to the stage where i wanna get more people in on this. Most important thing needed really is a very compotent drummer, and secondly im also interested in meeting any djs, samplists and producers that think they could contibute something to this project. The most important requirements would be a high-degree of musicianship and more importantly PASSION for the music and for trying to push the band forward. Ive got the bones of a few original tracks and lots of covers down now i just need some likeminded musicians to help complete the sound. I know my location isn’t prime and that any responses i get r unlikely to come from newhere near Reading but if the prospects r good im wiling to travel reasonably far, say London on one side to Oxford on the other.

anyway, holla if you're interested and we'll try and get something together.
safe,
Euan

Maybe one of the other forums I frequent could helpful. Mike Dolbear is a very active website for drummers. If you post here you're likely to get a few replies.

Good luck man, it sounds like a pretty sick idea.

I'm a drummer of 13 years, and play Dubstep. I live in Edinburgh, but I'd be interested in collaboration. Could also travel down to do gigs, provided there was a good few lined up. I'd be really interested in it.

PM me about it, we can chat.

I know this post was made in 2008, but im still keen to express my keenness for live dubstep!

Hi im an 18 year old bassist and guitarist and have been playing since I was 9. I live 10 minutes from reading!
I have an obsession with electronic music, and would love to be in a live electronic band (particularly dubstep)
I have invested in a few pedals with synth related sounds, however I am keen to get midi pickups for my instrument!
I play a 6 string bass, which means I have a great range of pitch - particularly good for deep wobbles!!

Please reply if you share an interest or are trying to set up a live dubstep band! :)

you should check addicted kru sound, they are a live dubstep band from belgium. maybe you can get inspiration from them.
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.
