im losing the high frequency response in my hearing, especially in my left ear. i've noticed it before after playing out, but today it's just silly, i cant hear shit.

does anyone know where to pick up those protective ear plugs?

yeh I have trouble in my right, I had tinnitus for about 3 days after standing too close to the speaker at fwd earlier this year, my hearing never really fully recovered. had my hearing checked and I've apparently got 20% loss!
The guy recommended "musicians earplugs" they're flat frequency response and custom made - only thing is they cost around Â£400!!!

Im actaully scared to find out how bad my ears actually are. My right ear (headphone ear) is definately damaged. I can really notice the difference even when on the phone...i will find out when i get my plugs fitted i suppose.

Gotta look after your ears - i just wish i had done it a little earlier!!

bit late to look after my ears, my right one, also headphone eat is screwed. I hear this buzzing noise or white noise stuff on occasions when I hear loud sounds. It's screwed me up but I learn to ignore it. I never went doctors or nuttin to find out how scrwed. I don't really want to know, it'd worry me more.

I like to think my ears are in pretty good shape, considering the amount of abuse they've had over the years. But must admit, one of the critisms I always seem to give to people who send me demos is 'the high-end needs boosting', so maybe it's just me?!

Haha. Whenever I'm doing multitrack work the left metre is always a little higher than the right. Probably has a lot to do with standing beside the same speaker stack at punk shows for a couple of years in a row as a teenager.

Did you know that during a stressful period, in a quiet room, you can actually hear your neurons firing away in your brain? It's true. Sounds like ringing.

Maybe we're not going deaf, we're just thinking too hard.

Yeah my hearing is a bit mashed aswell.. seriously, do not underestimate what years of raving/DJing can do to your ears. Been wearing proper moulded plugs since I got tinnitus last year. Kinda used to it now, but still freaks me out when I'm in a really quiet room, esp in my studio when I switch everything off and the only humming and whining left is just in my head!

We werent educated properly about the damaging effects of loud music and bass on our ears. IF I'd known 10 years ago I might have avoided sticking my head in bass cabinets in my early raving days. Trouble is, people only start to protect their ears once they are fucked.

So all of you, even if u dont have tinnitus or hearing trouble, get yourselves some nice moulded ear plugs for xmas, they may seem expensive, but you only get one pair of ears in your life here on earth, so take care of them!!

i always wear the foams but i'll spend Â£100 at least if it lets more unharmful frequencies in and protects better.

prior has lost one ear of his set and has to buy a new pair

God this subject really need some attention...

I started getting Tinnitus every now and then, normally after going to a rave or to see bands.. but when your waking up a day or two later, still with ringing in ya ears, you've caused permanent damage.

My ears started ringing on a daily basis and i was shitting myself as it was affecting everything... It would come on randomly and would last for anything up to an hour, so i decided to go get them checked out..

I was told that years of abuse have caused my ears damaged, so i picked up some ER 15 which are the moulded musicians earplugs..

Best decision i made, there pretty comfy and really do work.. All frequencies are still there (even the top end) there just reduced by 15 db...

You can get them in different reduction rates ER 9 (9db) ER 15 (15db) ER 25... you get it...I went to the Bedfordshire Hearing Healthcare place for mine who recommended i went for the 15's as i was already having problems.. They are pricey @ Â£165 but a small price to save your hearing..

I also find when you wearing them in a club you can hear what people are saying to your easier...

Basically even if your not getting ringing yet, go get some as it can seriously drive you crazy....

The biggest justification for me for wearing earplugs was going to the valve ss a few years back (4 I think!). I was wearing ear plugs because they gave em out free. SO I stuck em in and thought nothing more of it. The during the middle of the night one my friends tried to say something and I couldn't hear him, so I took a plug out. OMG. ALl I could hear was this punishing high end noise which was really piercing. Made me realise how much yours ears wear out when being exposed to that for a length of time. And when we left all my mates couldn't hear shit, whereas I was fine.

Since then always worn ear plugs to loud nights. I would whole heartedly recommend anyone else to do the same. Ears weren't built for what we can do with sound nowdays!

'Tis true. Here's a crazy thought: why don't we all just, like, turn the fucking PAs down by 15 db. Nah, too obvious, plus then you wouldn't be able to feel the ~~VIBRATIONZ~~
