Sydney’s Westernsynthetics will launch his truly progressive and forward thinking 12” that is set to turn heads in the international dubstep community. A culmination of years of performing in punk, stoner rock and psychedelic dub bands, Westernsynthetics’ take on dubstep draws from a vast pallet of influences including techno, dub, acid and psychedelia. Receiving airplay on Australia’s Triple J and a favourite on Sydney and Melbourne community radio, Westernsynthetics has just been nominated in the Oz Music Awards for the best Dance/Electronic Producer Award for 2008. Westernsynthetics debut 12" (SUBDUB002) is out now on Sub Continental Dub records. Westernsynthetics will be hitting the stage Friday the 12th of December at Hermann’s Bar, Sydney University, in celebration of his debut 12” release.
Bendigo's Spherix needs no introduction. His deep, bass heavy productions have been moving dance floors across the globe. With seminal releases on the Bare Dubs, Tube10 and Sub Continental Dub labels, Spherix is without doubt one of our local talents who has made a big impact on the international scene. Spherix will be playing a full bag of previously unheard dubs from himself and producers from the world over Friday the 12th of December at Hermann’s Bar.
Flippo’s sound is unique in the extreme. A Marine Biologist by day and a producer of abstract, minimal and glitchy dubstep by night, Flippo’s sound draws on influences such as the Basic Channel label, Minimal Techno, Jazzy DNB and IDM. Flippo has releases out on Texan producer Sines’ experimental label Formant Recordings and in 2007 Flippo won the prestigious Dubstepforum/Pressing Issues international Dubstep competition. Flippo revisits Sydney from his coastal shack in point Lonsdale, Victoria to play Hermann’s Bar, Sydney University, Friday the 12th of December.
Bec Paton is one of the founders of the now famous Headroom night in Sydney. Her long running 2SER radio show Patent Pending has exposed Sydney audiences to a vast array of obscure and forward thinking electronica. Bec’s impeccably mixed sets are always packed with gems and surprises. Catch Bec Friday December 12th at the Westernsynthetics 12” launch.
Gentleforce (aka DJ Eli) Vs Kodama - These two are true pioneers of the Dubstep sound in Australia. In 2003 they formed the Southern Steppa collective, exposing unsuspecting Australian dance floors to the sounds of Grime and Dubstep. On Friday December 12th at Hermann’s bar they join forces to play an experimental laptop Vs set. Expect to hear any number of weird and wonderful sounds from these two geeks as they sync their laptops for an improvised live set.
