ofcourse they crash,

ive had macs before that completely lock up and need hard booting for no apparent reason.

the whole they're bullet proof is bs, yes they can be amazingly solid when looked after, when used and abused like most often pc's are they can be just as unstable.

My MacBook crashs more than my PC. The only reason artist and musicians like them is because they look nice and presentable rather than the average grey plastic Dell PC. Boo..! to MacBooks

anyone who thinks there are vast differences between macs and PCs doesn't know anything about how computers really work.

that said, of course it's going to crash. it's not a flawless system. no system is flawless. that's just the nature of technology.

there are some apps you can get that will help you maintain your mac better. i would use google to find out, but a good place to start is with an application called OnyX. it's a sweet maintenance app and it will help you keep your computer in order.

Dark....mine crashes sometimes too. Still, I much prefer it to my PC.

I like how the mac haters jump on a thread as soon as they see it, haaa. Get a job

sorry to hear you lost a tune...my mac has crashed but only as a result of over processing through too many CPU hungry plug-ins at once...My super PC was a nightmare (it was a brilliant spec) but in comparison to my mac set-up, my PC is utter balls...Mac = best move i ever made

a coupe of tips from NI and some other sources...

some basic things you can do to help would be to switch off any clocks (screen savers and energy savers)...

turn off genie effect for window minimizing

Turn off magnification of your dock

Services tab turn personal file sharing and other active services Off.

turn Apple talk off

Disable any unnecessary startup items. remove dashboard and any oher unnescerry start ups from start up programmes

Keep at least 10% of your total drive capacity free

open Activity monitor, Inactive memory should never drop below 80MB
Free memory should never drop below 15MB. If you see BOTH values together in Activity Monitor's memory section, this means that your song or project is using all of your available RAM and OS X will likely begin swapping to compensate.

Well at least I don't have to post the same thing.

Sorry, but your wrong, 90% of studios I have been in has had a mac as the main machine. Im not a mac fanboy, but macs have amazing compatibility with various parts of hardware/software. I have rarely had to install new drivers etc when i get a new piece of equipment. This is just an example, there are many factors that come in to play here.

Basically, dont bias one machine against another, they are both computers and both have their pro's and cons

Putting the thread starters plight aside...

The only downside (argument) that i could see against being an OSX user is that...you are forced to use and adopt the interface that mac supplies with it's OS...

PC was and still is seen as a little more versatile, owing to programming of C++ VST's and software being generally alot wider...

...but with what i can see from hacks/VST's/software (bootcamp included) and how they are going at the minute, these arguments for mac vs PC only exist among those who don't really have enough knowledge on the subject...and both platforms are equally at fault when the user decides so.

hmmmm...that didn't come up in my image search...something tells me you have tried to fabricate this in your favour...however...it takes more than a bandana and a hood to gain credibility.

sorry...you remain a typical linux user

i'm really sorry to report this but 'Linux user' brought this up instead...you have the right to appeal against this defamation of character ...but research suggests you don't really stand much of chance...the evidence is piling up high
