Brighton?

Post by 7 below » Sat Oct 15, 2005 3:15 pm

Werd to all, this be my first post.

I'm based down in Brighton at the moment (moved here from Bristol a year and a bit ago), anyone know any Brighton based dubstep DJs (other than Toasty)? I'm going to be putting on a jungle/dnb/dubstep night in the new year and want to start collecting some contacts...

Heard lots of grime so far, but no dubstep - even though its flying out the record stores...

Hasn't Vexin joined up here yet? He's in Brighton, although I dunno if he's actually a DJ. Pretty good producer though....

Seems likes Brighton's got the beginnings of a proper scene there. Hope it gets movin along, good luck with all/any ventures.

Southside rockin some tunes at the mo, loved the Square Off rmx.

actually Tenshon didn't know there was already a south london southside records (he also doesn't really consider his stuff dubstep), he was slightly alarmed when I informed him of them :? may need to change the name of his label if his stuff starts to drift our way

Shops in Brighton...?

Post by ig » Mon Oct 17, 2005 8:49 pm

Any shops worth checking down here, d'you know? There's a little section in Rounder, but nowhere else that I've been into seems to stock any dubstep at all, unless I've missed it. It'd be nice to stop paying a bloody fortune in postage!

Cheers,

ig.

Alright mate, Infinite records have just started stocking, and hedonizm stocks a fair bit too. Rounders has still got the largest section in however...

oh and underworld (is that right?) in kensington gardens might stock a bit of the rephlex shizzle and some of the more leftfield stuff... but they're really overpriced

Easy Brightonian dubsteppers. I moved down here myself from Liverpool just over two years ago, drawn here by the breaks scene and the fact you can buy weed on the beach! (yeah I know, I found a better source now)

I've been trying to get my shit together and release some tunes, but real life has eaten into my production life badly. I just sold my entire hardware studio, and have gone totaly software based.

I'd be well up for attending any dubstep related nights that are coming up.
Also be interested in collaborating with any other producers, and seeing how they make thier tracks.

Keep me posted on ultra2600@tiscali.co.uk

Oh yeah, wheres a decent place to get tunes?, I've purchased everything Rounder have got.

It seem Rounder has the broadest selection of labels and is the cheapest. You can pick up some bits they don't stock in places like Hedonizism and Edge Of The World but they do cost more.

I've found stuff on the following so far:
Boka
DMZ
Ital
Hyperdub
Skull Disco
Army
Souljah
Hotflush/Scuba
Planet Mu
Rephlex
Storming
werk discs
Various

So it's there in drips, still best to go for the internet if you putting a larger order.
