''Forget the haters, forget ‘Bongo Jam’, forget that Crazy Cousinz will never produce anything of merit ever again. ‘Do You Mind’ was as good as good-times music got in 2008.''

^ is Fact magazine stupid? ^

top 100 tracks of the year

I've read quite a few sneery comments about funky on the fact website. Maybe they're waiting until it's officially credible? haw haw

(resident advisor will probably cotton on in about five months time)

nb: I like the Fact mag/website though, generally on point.

This looks really cool
I might try and make the trek down from Grottingham for Thursday. What say you, Corpsicle?

Just out of interest, what's a 'media partner' in relation to a club night? I've never come across that term before.

what i'd bear in mind - and it's the case with every magazine really - is that everything's written by various people and the tastes aren't ever gonna completely correlate. in other words some of us are well into funky, and some of us aren't, so if there's a strange tone to an article like the top 100 tracks that's obviously written as a group, then that's just that disparity in taste coming through.

'do you mind' did come 2nd in tracks of the year, 'siren', 'african warrior' and 'segaliser' all featured, marcus and mac 10's rinse set came 3rd in mixes of the year, and we had an interview with roska in the last print issue. despite the odd bit of snarkyness (not by me, i should add!) i don't know if there's any mag that covers it that much- i haven't checked rwd for over a year though, so i dunno what they're on.

btw, that roska mix was just a thing he did, it wasn't one of our podcast series, but he is doing one in the new year so watch out for that. ;)

Not to worry, to be honest I came out with that comment in a bit of a sarcastic mood and soon after regretted it. For one thing as you say the magazine is obviously written by different people with strong opinions (rather that than a load of people towing the line) and for another I myself think some of the big vocal tunes in funky are pretty heavy on the cheese (still love a lot of them though)... and I'm pretty sure I've ridiculed it myself! So call me Mr. Hypocrite.

I think just reading that chart there seemed to be a very strong bias towards bands and it all seemed a bit like indie kids indulging in some ironic cultural tourism - kind of a ''We like this! (nudge nudge wink wink)''

But thats just how it read to me at the time, and I don't think its true really, at least not of Fact... I think I'm quite hypersensitive about rock/indie fans sneering at dance/urban music just because I've heard plenty of that in my day to day life!

As I said upthread I read the website all the time and enjoy loads of the articles, and its good to see the type of music I'm into getting coverage in a magazine... so big up.

funny thing is, all four of us on the editorial team are all dance fans before we're rock fans. if it looks like there's a bias towards bands, i'd wager it's more us overcompensating for the comparative lack of rock music we listen to (quite a lot of our contributors though, are well versed in indie). and i think one thing we've learnt this year- partially from the end of year articles- is that that maybe we get that wrong at times. i mean when you look at the 'most popular' and 'best rated' charts on the sidebar it's zomby, jackmaster, night slugs, ben ufo, drop the lime, richard x's 20 best hardcore... all dance-related stuff.

but no worries, big up yrself every time corpse. glad you're mostly enjoying the mag too, cuz your posts are some of the best things about dissensus and dsf. :)
