Wonky!

Post by dubway » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:23 pm

last month i had a chance to hear Harmonic 313 and then last week Rustie playing live.
after hearing it live my appetite for that sound grew so much that now i want to hear everything there is.
so i decided to start this rolling thread about Wonky to collect all information about it on one spot.

here are some basic resources to start:

@Flash Harry, i was drawing parallels between genres, not naming them. if people wanna call their shit something different, that's more than cool with me.

i generally like lot of this style of hiphop, but i wont be callin it wonky shit name imo(same goes for funky). But it is different from the norm, so you gotta distinguish it somehow i guess.

Fucking dumb. I've heard the term wonky so much it's unbelievable. People using it for everything. From house tunes to fucking guys getting too lean up. If you cant use another word for it just use the word wonky.

This is the only thing I don't get with journalists atm, it's Hiphop. Plain and simple, post jay dee hiphop. not wonky dubstep or wonky house or indeed wonky. It's hiphop. I don't understand why people don't just call it that?!
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

One reason perhaps is they dont wanna to write sentence or 2 each time they refer to it. So instead of saying its "post jay dee, bassy, wonky unquanatised hiphop" phrases like "wonky" or "dubstep" are coined. In one sense its compliment that producers tunes are considered unique enough to be singled out separated from everything else. But most seem to hate being pigeon holed.

Guess its fashion innit the balkanization of music genres

Bet Elvis in 50s was sittin munchin cheeseburgers moaning about how he thought the name rock and roll was shite
