bassface wrote:I just read a thread on grimeforum.com basically about the BBC trying to lock Grime from the airwaves. As the discussion went on, it turned into comparing different raves from different genres and of course Dubstep came up. The post was funny imo as they were talking about the lack of gash in the grime raves then said go to a Dubstep rave and see hardly any gash skanking although theres hardly any beef etc. FUCK ME WhyNot? a few weeks back was ram with gash skanking hard (although some were jail bait and pill rats constantly begging pills).

Now i used to be a solid Grime head didnt listen to any other genre atall, as soon as i heard Midnight Request Line on a Sidewinder ting i was hooked on Dubstep standard and haven't looked back. Dubstep is doing alot right now with raves up and down the country, no London bias i.e if your not from London it means your swag, solid productions from consistant producers, positive commercial radio exposure. Where as Grime is bascally dead, grime heads constantly leaving the scene, never turning up for radio, poor poor bait hip hop mixtapes, hardly any raves, bad exposure (which imo is not deserved).

To cut an essay short i beleive a lott of Dubsteppers came from the Grime scene and imo has over passed Grime and even DnB as the most solid underground genre alive from when Skream, Plastician etc get bookings in Asia, Oz, NZ its alot. I don't see Wiley, Stryder ETC on that ting even though i must admit some grime man are on paper at the mo.

I can't say all i wanna say overwise i would be hear all day and this wasnt a grime hate thread, i fact im sad tht grime is basically dead. This was more of a thread to people who have progressed from grime onto the Dubstep ting like me to share opinions on why they think grime has gone down hilL, whilst Dubstep is getting on like bird flu, infecting people from Asia to America with bassfaces and shitty bass pants.
ye its nt really a secret dubstep is moving and grime isnt.

i was listening to grime from eskimo times. it was fuckin sick, but it is a shell of what it used to be. dubstep is just generally better music, its as simple as that. much deeper productions, productive and innovative scene. Grime got pulled in lots of different directions and lost its momentum imo.

as for the rave scene. the vibes are sick and all the past few raves ive been have been rammed with girls. i just got back from FWD and there was loads of girls bruckin it out on the dancefloor.

edit: post the link to this thread lol

Well, I wont support thread to which you refer, but I like Grime more than Dubstep.

I admit 2008 has not been a good year for Grime. 2007 got my hopes up for Grime, but this year has been disappointing. However Dubstep started to seem weak to me in late 2007. The scene became less localized and the quality became diluted.

Grime will never be like it was in 2003-2005. But to compare all the years of Grime versus all the years of Dubstep, I choose Grime.

Now, it's all about UK Funky for me.

i think the dubstep scene is in its early stages of becoming as big as drum n bass.... fact... the whole dubstep scene is so much more healthier than the grime scene... i meen .. macabre unit come from grime... number 1s in the 1xtra grime chart etc.. blahblah.... the whole time we was involved in the grime scene .... we knew theyd be nothin 2 come from it, i can say its acted as a steppin stone for many artists... .... yea.. i jus think your limited as a producer as to what u can do wit grime... i meen lets face it.. if it aint 8 .. 16... 8... 16 ... and it aint mc friendly.. then jog on..... dubstep on the other hand... set your bpm.. and the world is your oyster ... ........ u know... i roll with a team of top flight lyricists..... not 1 of em breath the word grime no more....it is a shame... but its a scene that self detructed..... sad really....

and the girl thing.... u no wot.... yea its nice seein girls at raves..... i meen girls tho.. not crakheads rat birds...... ... so what if girls dont wana kum 2 dubtsep bashes... i meen .... dmz..... 90% male domination .... and the biggest dubstep bash in the world...

its sad .. cos grime is dead... . but.. long live dubstep....

bless.. raff .. (R.Demon - Macabre unit)

Whatever state you see grime as being in, it's given UK MCs their own voice and you can't put THAT genie back in the bottle.

Whether they collaborate with dubstep and related producers (Trim, Goodz, Flow Dan), make pop (Dizzee, Wiley - although both still make hardcore tunes/freestyles too), or stay grime to the core (Young Dot) these are still artists in it for the long haul. So whether you write "the scene" off, grime as a vocal style is never going to go away.

Early Grime is far better than dubstep, it's so much more hype.. and there's something really dark and strange about how badly produced a lot of the beats were, really simple harsh electronic sounds with mad lyrics about shanking and things.

Nowadays it's shit though.
