Sampling

Today i couldnt be bothered with making tunes so i sat down and sampled tons of shit as well as sortin out my sample collecetion how often do you guys do this?

Just spent an entire weekend doing just that, cleaning up sample library, normalizing everything, and cleaning up folders. But then again I'm a neat-freak on the computer and obssess over the smallest things. Sometimes perfectionism is a disease . . . LOL

it is, obsessive-compulsive disorder

i do a clear out every two months or so myself. can be a bit tedious but it has to be done i think.

i have never done this in 7 years of producing

Every few years i stick everything old in a big folder that i archive and start from scratch... normally ends up a mess in about 10 minutes!

I know it slows my workflow but i really can't find the time to do something that boring

On the positive side it means that i am less likely to use the same samples more than once, so each tune is more unique

lol i have never cleaned up my samples either... i have this huge folder on my desktop- some weird stuff in there.

i just keep a drums/percussion folder... and a folder with breaks...

the rest, i just browse thru when i need them.

i try not to rely on samples so much anymore outside of drums, i have been using my desktop mac as a standalone synth- it runs thru my guitar head for tube sound a spring reverb, then an outboard distortion and gets mixed thru an old tascam porta one for color. then i sequence it all in my laptop. i try and resample everything once i record, eq, and add fx. my sound is way dirtier now, but i like it

Yeh every couple of months some kind of reorgansisation gets done. In a ideal world I'd stay on top but creativity gets in the way. A necessary evil I reckon. Otherwise I'd end up using the same stuff over an over. Clear some space for some new stuff. It'll do your soul good!

doesn't reorganizing your sample folder make it so you can't use old projects properly? the progam wouldn't be able to find the samples. which is why you should just have them well organized from the beginning.

It used to be like that (which is probably how I got anal about organization) but the last couple years I've noticed every program I use finds them again automatically. Logic definitely, but even FL Studio before I switched over . . . No big deal anymore . . .
