On shufflin hats and what nots.

Post by b166er » Mon Aug 28, 2006 9:53 am

Im told that shufflin is the way to get that feel in your beats, sos I been ttryin to get my beats to move, mainly with shufflin hats and tams, I always get a very pronounced off beat gallop. 32nd and 16th note shuffles dont seem to work out, what am i doin wrong?

try moving only the hits that dont fall on the 8th notes of the bar. e.g

quantised 16th

swung

Thanks for the replies, guys, turns out I figured out what i was doin wrong, when i was shufflin mmy hats, all my 'ghost' hits in between werent shuffled as well, (snares, efx, etc.), creating a tiny amount of gallop. Not only that but I wasnt swinging my bass along wit the riddim (reggae 101), so the riddim was static, and not flowing. Thanks anyways.
