Sorry if this has been asked before, i tried the search tool but it just brought back loads of people giving away free 320's.

A few people have asked me for 320's of a few of my tracks. I know its a format, and that its higher quality. But Is it . wav or .mp3

I cant export from sonar as .mp3 beacuse that requires a £20 licence whitch i havent gor round to bying yet.

So is there a was I could export directly as a 320 or can i export as say a wave file, then convert it in some software?

a 320 means a 320 bitrate MP3.

So get your WAV file and convert it (using LAME encoder) to a 320 bitrate MP3 file.. This is basically the highest quality without an overly large filesize. Used for mixing into DJ sets or just people who love higher quality music.

they aren't. lots of them - even from big labels - are not mastered at all. try opening some of the weak sounding ones in a wave editor and having a look for yourself.

You could also just bounce down your track to .WAV file and convert in Itunes (Free ) to a 320 ..If you dont wanna pay the license fee for Sonar..

I remember buying a Qproject 320 off of beatport a while ago and it was a recording of the vinyl release

record pops and all that

Just to clarify, when I export a song out of Reason as WAV. then convert it in itunes to an mp3, what am I ending up with exactly?

A 120/160 bitrate mp3? Or does it automaticaly change it to a 320?

Also I read this :

"If a file has already been encoded at 128kbps, its upper limit for the song is 128 so making it 320 will just give you a bigger file size with no gain in sound quality."

So if this is true, what amount should people want their songs to be encoded at?

i don't understand the question.

ideally:

24 bit wav from your sequencer
dithered to 16 bit for burning to CD and playing out
320kb mp3 for sending to people that might want to play it out

i know some of the dnb labels who couldn't find dats of originally or cds ripped from vinyl for some of their back cat

I just found that quote above on a forum and it made me think I was possibly missing a step in terms of getting the best quality file.

In the settings, you choose the bitrate of the mp3, then right click- convert to mp3.

where is the setting for choosing the birtate i checked and could not find it
