Festivals in 2009.

Post by Dead Rats » Thu Jan 22, 2009 4:20 pm

Which ones are you off to? Who's playing? Who's rumored to be playing? Anyone special? Anyone you haven't seen before? Been to the festival before? What happened last time? Who you going with?

Tell us, tell us, tell us! Hype, hype, hype!

Missing out on Bloc, I think :(

Bangface Weekender will be starting the year for me, although you already know all the hype for that one Rats!

Glastonbury at the end of June (not even looked at the lineup) and something European, possibly Dour, Exit or Roskilde depending on friends and lineups.

I fucking do, Magma.

I've got 3 currently confirmed this year, although I haven't paid for one of them. They are -

BLOC Weekender in March
- With Aphex Twin, Afrika Bambaataa, and Future sound of London (first show in 10 years!).

Bangface Weekender in April
- With Altern-8, Skream and Alec Empire.

Glade Festival in July - Still unconfirmed.

I'm looking for another one to top of the year and make it 4, and I was thinking of Glastonbury, particularly for the Glade and dance stages. I've heard it's a bit of a 50/50-type festival, though.

Last year I went to Download, which was shit and I'm not going again. I'm pretty much never listen to any metal at all, now.

Glastonbury's great as long as you throw yourself into the atmosphere and don't get too obsessed with trying to see everything you want to.... it's just a giant party filled with lots of nice people. This year will be my 9th on the trot, I think... me and my brothers used to jump the fence when we were teenagers and I've bought a ticket for as long as I have been able to afford one.

Wouldn't mind doing Glade again (I managed to go on the only muddy year!)- they're completely revamping it and changing location this year though, aren't they? Should be interesting!

I'm insanely fucking jealous of Bloc.

So you should be, dapper. It's only January, but I can't really see a better line-up than Bloc on the cards for any festival.
It's another festival which has also changed it's location, which is quite good. Last year was right near the seafront, and I have a really bad problem with fruit machines, so it meant I was basically skint on the first day. They could do without that sniffer dog business as well. Did they have sniffer dogs at Bangface last year?

Glade was fucking savage last year, best festival for me yet, so I'm glad I gave it another chance from the year previous. All that mud-bollocks was really, really bad for the morale.

Jump the gate as a teen?! 9 years in a row?! How old are you, brah?

wanted to do glasto but my mates kept putting it off and I think tickets are sold out now.

Will do Reading then if we can get tickets, its a laugh but theres fuck all electronic music and far too many shite indie/emo/metalcore bands.

Cannot recommend Dour highly enough, nicest friendliest festival I've been to.Also at 100 euros for a 4day ticket+camping it's an utter bargain[well maybe slightly less so now given the current weakness of the pound  ].
If you get in early enough as well you should able to bag a return on Eurostar for £59.00 :) .No word on this years line up yet but here's linkage to last years names. http://www.dourfestival.be/en/2008/lineup

This! Went in 2007 and it was totally fucking awesome. There's even a ridiculously beautiful lake just outside that doubles as a sort of unofficial chillout area.

Rats: I didn't notice any sniffers at Bloc in 2007, but then I was being a very good boy all weekend so didn't have my eyes peeled. The Bangface Weekender was seeeeriously laid back... a few people were getting searched on their way into the venues, but it's only like 5 minutes to your chalets and there was practically door to door service going on! We'd been in for about 10 minutes when someone stuck a *menu* through the door!!

the sniffer dog was at the main gate checking vehicles randomly, it's handler was putting in the van as we pulled in through the gates.

every festival has a police presence and sniffer dogs. just be careful or let some dealer put up with the stress and find him later :)
